This bigot has set loose nasty forces... expect more Fergusons; COMMENT.

Byline: BONNIE GREER, CHICAGO-BORN AUTHOR AND CRITIC

IN my hometown Chicago right now, there are "Not My President" marches against Trump.

If this happens again after his inauguration, what will happen?

We know Trump is capable of anything. He could federalise the National Guard, the state's militia, usually under control of the Governor of the state. And he could do mass arrests. I wouldn't put it past him... or his followers in the "Cult Of Trump", otherwise known as "Make America Great Again".

And with his campaign shaper and possibAle chief of staff Steve Bannon - head of very conservative Breitbart News, one of the leading lights of the so-called "alt-right" (a movement with anti-Semitic, Islamophobic and racist overtones) - there's one thing for certain: you can expect more Fergusons.

The infamous events in Ferguson after the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown and the work of the peacemaking Mothers Of The Movement (the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland and others killed unlawfully by the police) are a world away from Trump Tower.

IGNORANCE

And they will occur again because of Trump's ignorance, vanity, and the real menace and racism of some of those in his circle. Let's not forget, Trump started his political career by saying that Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States and demanded to see his birth certificate. Even though there were two birth announcements in the Honolulu press a few days after the president's birth, that wasn't good enough.

Then because Trump kept the campaign as personal as possible (to hide his lack of any real policies), the terms "Crooked Hillary" and "Lock her up!" gained more importance in the past months than the rise of police shootings of unarmed black men and boys.

And there's no doubting his ravings of "Mexicans are rapists" and "Build that wall!" propelled him into the White House.

Reports that some Trump supporters were yelling "Jew!" at journalists and screaming "We hate blacks" are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the nasty forces he has unleashed.

Apart from the National Enquirer, the only other newspaper endorsements in his campaign came from the official news-sheet of the Ku Klux Klan. Their white sheets and hoods are making a comeback in the US - and not just for Halloween.

So to think that Trump can ever achieve some sort of racial calm is a joke. And those, such as Nigel Farage, who promote him in our country are a clear and present danger to our own fragile stability.
