The mini fashionistas getting first step on career ladder.

THERE is something different about the children who sit at desks around the Fashion Class design studio.

At first it's hard to pinpoint but then it becomes clear.

These pupils have style - they are co-ordinated, wearing distinctive accessories and customised garments. It's clear they care about what they wear and have the knowledge to know what looks HEADS DOWN J time and effort good on them. Heads bent, they work hard on a set of sophisticated designs for their latest collection.

Nina Wright, 13, from Inverkip, Renfrewshire, said: "I came along because I like fashion and I wanted to meet new people. I'd love to do a fashion job."

The girls put into collections Her neighbour, designing under the label Emiliano Kucci, 12-year-old Emily Kelloch, from Kilmacolm, said: "As soon as I heard about the class, I really wanted to come.

"I'd love to be a fashion designer when I grow up."

Ayrshire girl Kirsty Robertson, 12, from Dalry, is also clear about the direction she'd like to go in.

"I'd love to have a small design business where I make garments," she said.

Maddie Kleat, 12, from Kilmacolm, thinks the class will help her follow in her mum's footsteps.

She said: "Mum used to have a clothes shop. I'd like to keep a clothes shop too."

And 12-year-old Holly Thompson, from Kilmacolm, said: "This course is a really good start.

"A lot of the things I've learned have surprised me, such as how much goes into making a garment."

Meanwhile, 11-year-old Molly-May Paterson, from Kilmacolm, said: "I used to go out wearing babyish jeggings. Now I think about my whole look.

"I'd love to work in fashion and I'm going to keep using the skills I've learned here."
