The art of providing a focal point; Claire Hornby offers a few tips on how to add flair to your home decor with some great artwork.

Irecommend wall art as a fantastic way to inject colour or texture to your interior scheme. Most people think of framed pictures when it comes to featuring art in their homes but let's not forget other mediums such as sculpture or decorative accessories, as these too can be hung on the wall.

A few little tips to get started are; be sure not to hang any valuable art, edition prints or photography in the bathroom, as the steam can ruin the artwork if the frame has not been sealed professionally. Then, try to pick out hints of colour from the room's interior and match them to your chosen artworks or match themes with the subject you choose.

Now wall art does not necessarily need to be hung on the wall (I said it). Placing framed work on shelving or on a console table can create an eclectic look and add interest to a room. The Awakening Print is a beautiful depiction of the Empire State Building that comes in a black and silver stepped frame, this image has a sort of 'hotel luxe' feel about it, suggesting travel and an appreciation of architecture. I love using framed wall art like this as a table top item, it's just a little unexpected. The Copper Web Wall Sculpture is another great option if you want to make a statement with your choice of art. A sculpture like this will bring a touch of metallic glamour to your scheme and Skull horns PS295 copper is definitely still the metal of the moment. This is a real eyecatching piece which uses geometric motifs and copper craftsmanship to create a work of art that sits away from the wall, creating a focal point with depth. The traditional LP Album cover artwork is so diverse and interesting I think it is a shame to have your 'golden oldie' records stashed away in the attic. Dust them off and get them on the walls. Frame your favourites and hang them on the wall to add a pop of colour - or as an ode to your favourite artist. Alternatively opt for traditionally framed versions such as The Rolling Stones 'Some Girls' Athena Album Art, perfect for those who don't have the time or the old records to hand. If creating a quirky and eclectic scheme is more to your taste why not opt for the enduringly popular animal skulls or horns.

These Skull Horns are crafted from Polyresin and are a great example of a unique, 3D feature accessory that can be wall mounted and are sure to create a talking point. So, think 'outside of the box' when it comes to wall art and finally, my best tip of all, is to choose art that you love.
