GIRLS Golf Rocks has become a well-used hashtag on social media as the women's game starts catching up with the 21st century.

So although the Manchester area has never thrown up a household name in the sport - male or female - who's to say Bronte Law or the exciting teenager Bel Wardle will not change that? Bronte, 23, already has winnings of $272,246 from her fledgling professional career on the LPGA tour.

Bel, 18, put down an impressive marker as a 17-year-old last summer when she captured the English Women's Open and English Girls titles.

In January she won the Portuguese championship and she's brought the Cheshire title to her club, Prestbury, following four years in a row as the county junior champion. In Bronte's third and last Curtis Cup two years ago, she became the first Great Britain and Ireland amateur to achieve a perfect 5-0 record against America.

I know Richard Green, from the Bramhall club, who coaches both Bronte and Bel, was annoyed when that incredible feat went virtually unnoticed by the general media.

A high standard of coaching is not all Bronte and Bel have in common. Bel is in her final year at Cheadle Hulme School, where Bronte was a pupil.

After her A levels this year, Bel will fly out for a golf scholarship at the University of California. Bronte is a graduate of UCLA.

Taking into account two of her national titles are for women, she has an out-of-this-world CV for a golfer still at school who started playing national events when she was 12.

How good is Bel going to be after four years competing on first rate courses in good weather against the world's leading amateur talent on the US college circuit? It will be fun finding out.
