TV licence payment.

I have received a letter from the TV Licensing office to say that the BBC has now agreed to pay for the continuation of free TV licence for the less well off and vulnerable.

How heroic of the BBC! I'm sure all the campaigning is well worth even that.

But I have an idea that the original campaigns also included doubts about taking TV licence money and being very extravagant with the use of it in certain ways.

So I feel justified in asking why I should pay for a full TV licence when I've had to stop watching one of my favourite quiz programmes, Eggheads, because the presenter is the very boring Jeremy Vine, who is, I understand, the highest paid presenter of the BBC, and has to have a biro stuck in his hand like a baby's dummy. How can you justify paying such people huge sums when you can't afford it? Another example is the annual pointless interviews with Sue Barker with the star players in the corner of the centre court. It's easier to switch off.

But according to this latest letter, the BBC needs the money to keep up the quality of its programmes - why doesn't it? I have to add that my favourite programme is The Repair Shop - such attractive and humane people.

I'll probably end up buying the TV licence just to watch them and also keep up with the news.
