THE CONSPIRATOR (12A, 123 MINS) ON April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth assassinated the 16th US president, Abraham Lincoln (Gerald Bestrom, as part of a conspiracy. Director Robert Redford chronicles the aftermath of the killing in this historical courtroom drama, told from the perspective of the one woman arrested and charged for the murder.John Wilkes Booth (Toby Kebbell) is arrested along with co-conspirators Samuel Arnold (Jeremy Paul Tuttle), George Atzerodt (John Michael Weatherly), David Herold (Marcus Hester), Lewis Payne (Norman Reedus) and Michael O'Laughlen, as well as Mary Surratt (Robin Wright, pictured), who owned the boarding house where the men concocted their heinous plan. Idealistic lawyer Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy)is hired to defend Surratt. Initially, he views her with contempt, believing her guilty of the crime, but when it emerges that her son John(Johnny Simmons) is one of the alleged conspirators and he eluded capture, Aiken wonders if Mary is being put on the stand to flush her boy out of hiding.
