Supporters vow to help Nico bounce back to elite league.

Nico United supporters in Selebi Phikwe have vowed to help their team bounce back to the BTC Premiership.

United relegated from BTC Premiership to the Debswana First Division North league together with other north teams, Green Lovers and Mahalapye United Hotspurs in 2016/2017 season.

In an interview, one of the supporters, Modisaotsile Robert said the team had not been performing well due to financial constraints.

He said it was important for United supporters and Selebi Phikwe residents to support the team bounce back to the elite league.

Robert urged supporters to contributing funds to help the team cover its travelling expenses and administrative work.

Majombolo as it is affectionately called by its supporters, was started in the early 1970's by the then BCL mine workers as a recreation football club.

It started experiencing financial constraints after losing the BCL Mine sponsorship resulting in the loss of key players in the likes of Christopher Musonda, Kutlwelo Molokang, Thatayotlhe Gaokgorwe, Trinity Nko, Allen Ndodole, Mogomotsi Samson, Onkabetse Seforo, Khumoetsile Kufigwa and Richard Legwaila.

Another supporter, Elizabeth Madome said having a team playing in the BTC Premiership could help revive the economy of Selebi Phikwe.

She said supporters and the business community must join hands and come up with ways to help restore the team's dignity

Another supporter, Aaron Otsile called upon all Nico United supporters club to open a bank account where people who wished to help could deposit money.

Otsile said the dream could be realised, if supporters and residents of Selebi Phikwe joined hands to resuscitate the team.

The team's coach Peter Muchina thanked Nico United supporters and promised to do his best adding that he welcomed the financial support.
