Small herd brings Xmas Joy at Red Ladies sale for Limousin heifers.

A TWO-cow Limousin herd from Abergele was among the big hitters at Carlisle's Red Ladies sale of Limousin females (Fri, Dec 11).

Selling at 10,000gns, the day's second best price, was June 2014-born Brenmick Joy from Robert Jones and daughter Helen of Pen-Y-Bryniau.

A class winner earlier, Joy also won the Sid Bowe Perpetual Challenge Trophy as the best maiden heifer.

She is by the Wilodge Vantastic son Elite Forever Brill and is out of the Haltcliffe Olympus daughter Brenmick Anna.

Joy won the Best Homebred Heifer prize in the 2014 North West Midlands and North Wales Limousin herd competition.

More recently she lifted the Pure Bred and Continental title at the East of England Winter Fair when shown by Tecwyn Jones, Llanrwst.

Buying her was Cumbrian suckled calf breeder John Richardson, who first saw Joy when judging her at Eglwysbach Show.

At the sale nine females topped 5,000gns, with the 25 entries averaging PS4,268 overall, up PS1,051 on the year.

Supreme champion and sale leader, at 24,000gns, was Brockhurst Howzat from WJ & M Mash, Chesham, Bucks.

An embryo calf by Wilodge Vantastic, she was sold in-calf to Aileen Ritchie, Aberdeenshire Aileen also bought the reserve, Bruce Goldie's Goldies Inchantress.

As part of the sale, Bruce offered a frozen embryo by Ampertaine Gigolo, the sire of the world record-breaking Trueman Jagger.

Selling for 5,500gns was Nebo Janice, an October 2014 heifer bred by Mei Thomas, Bryn Farm, Nebo, Llanrwst.

She is by Huntershall Gladiator and is out of Nebo Bunny, the reserve champion female at the 2008 Royal Welsh Show.

Janice was knocked down to TH & HE Price, Carmarthen.
