PICK A PORSCHE THAT PAYS.

Byline: RICHARD HAMMOND

We don't bang on about the London congestion charge even though car makers bombard us with facts about how their new motors avoid it.

There's no point, because not that many people regularly pay it, and rather a lot of people don't actually live in London or even near the city.

However, Porsche has just let us know that the new Panamera S E-Hybrid, which costs PS88,967, is exempt from the congestion charge. What's more, the car qualifies for the Government's PS5,000 grant because it's an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle.

It's madness. First, the charge is meant to reduce congestion and the Panamera is a pretty big car, and second it's more than a little obscene to give a PS5,000 grant to someone who can afford to buy a car that costs almost PS90,000.
