Matthew Wright's column: LENNON'S NANNY QUITS; She lasted a fortnight.

PROUD parents Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit have suffered a setback - their new nanny has walked out on them.

The nanny, handpicked by Patsy to care for new-born Lennon, quit after just a fortnight in the job.

Last night friends of the couple told me Patsy was "surprised and slightly disappointed" by her baby-minder's sudden exit.

"Patsy was really relying on this woman and expected her to stick around a little longer than she did," said one friend.

I'm told that the lucky candidate was promised her own London flat, pounds 400 a week spending money and frequent trips aboard. In return, she was expected to care for Lennon - born last month - and James, Patsy's seven-year-old son by ex-husband Jim Kerr.

The 31-year-old actress interviewed ten hopefuls at the pounds 1.2 million mansion she shares with Oasis singer Liam, 27, in Primrose Hill, North London.

Everything was sorted out in good time but Lennon's arrival six weeks early threw a spanner in the works. The nanny was asked to start early and was charged with looking after James while Patsy, who had Lennon by caesarian, stayed at London's pounds 1,300-a-night Portland Hospital.

"You could say she found working for Mr and Mrs Gallagher a little strange," one of the nanny's associates told me yesterday.

"Although she was happily hired after being interviewed by the family, it's a different story when you finally start the job.

"The nanny felt uncomfortable and that she wasn't the necessarily the person Liam and Patsy needed, so she decided to leave."

I wish whoever takes over her job all the luck in the world. Something tells me they might just need it ...
