LEAHY, Robert L. The worry cure; seven steps to stop worry from stopping you. Read by Mike Chamberlain. 3 cds. 3.5 hrs. Abridged. Listen and Live Audio. 2006. 1-59316-077-1. $19.95. Cardboard; content, author, reader notes. JSAI'd describe this audio as a great resource for worried people who don't have a lot of time to leisurely contemplate the sources of their worry. Leahy's research, approach, method and credentials are sound. In his seven steps he draws upon the latest research in cognitive behavioral theory, with respect paid to Eastern psychology's emphasis on mindfulness. The seven steps are speedily condensed and narrator Chamberlain offers them in a rapid-fire delivery. This may be the best and most appropriate self-help many modern, busy listeners in hectic prime time can absorb. The case histories of individuals who have benefited from Leahy's method are compelling. Those who lean towards and have the time for meditative traditions may find the speed and condensed theory a Reader's Digest version of what they do, but I would urge tolerance for an author who has the basic facts right.
