French top for service with a snarl.

BRITISH visitors to France find the entente is somewhat less than cordiale, a survey shows.

Nearly one in five (19per cent) of UK holidaymakers thinks France is the

rudest country in the world, the survey revealed.

By contrast, the US is regarded as the friendliest foreign destination, according to the survey from The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph.

Paris is the worst spot for rudeness in France, with shop assistants, waiters, taxi drivers and hotel staff all being regarded as rather less than helpful.

One in 10 UK visitors voted the US the friendliest of all UK destinations and one in five consider American service the best in the world.

Singapore in particular and the Far East in general also gets the British thumbs- up for service, while UK visitors reckon Thailand offers warm welcomes.

But the survey also found that half of UK travellers are made to feel unwelcome at their destination airport, three-quarters find local people less than hospitable and nearly two in five have experienced unhelpful tourist information staff.
