France: Beckett fumes at Johnny run.

Byline: Desmond Stoneham

RALPH BECKETT'S Johnny Jumpup had circumstances conspire against him when last of seven behind Silent Name in the Listed Prix de Saint-Patrick at Deauville yesterday, writes Desmond Stoneham. Nelson de Souza had to give up the ride after a fall at Lingfield on Wednesday and, according to French rules, could be replaced only by a jockey of similar experience.

The stewards did not accept his 30 wins in Brazil, so he was replaced by little-known local apprentice Steven Colas.

Colas failed to get to the lead and was shuffled to the rear before halfway. Johnny Jumpup was last all the way up the straight, and Colas was banned for two days for using his whip when clearly beaten.

An angry Beckett said: ``My horse did not get the ride for him to run well.''
