Fiorente aims to confirm his class at Glorious Goodwood; horse racing.

Byline: Chris Wright

FIORENTE will bid to confirm the huge promise he showed at Royal Ascot when he goes for glory in the bet365 Gordon Stakes on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood.

The lightly-raced Monsun colt was unraced as a juvenile, but looks sure to make up for lost time judged by his first three racecourse starts.

An eyecatching fifth on debut for Sir Michael Stoute, the three-year-old won as he liked on his next start at Newbury, earning him a step up in class.

Fiorente still ran green and looked babyish on his latest appearance in the King Edward VII Stakes, making his excellent second to Nathaniel, Saturday's King George winner, all the more meritorious.

But Peter Reynolds, racing manager for owners Ballymacoll Stud, is not taking anything for granted. "There's some good opposition in there and it's no walkover," said Reynolds.

"It was a good run at Royal Ascot and this has been the plan since, but he's got to do it again.

"He's done everything right so far and hopefully he'll run another nice race.

"Sir Michael tells me the horse is well and we can't ask for any more."
