A FINAL call is being made for nominations for the North East Charity Awards 2016, with just one week left until deadline.

A FINAL call is being made for nominations for the North East Charity Awards 2016, with just one week left until deadline.

Entries, which must be made before 5pm on Thursday, August 18, will be assessed by a panel of expert judges before a total of 11 awards are presented at Newcastle's Marriott Hotel on October 6. The event is run by The Gazette in association with its Newcastle sister paper, The Journal, associate sponsors Brewin Dolphin and support sponsor Leathers LLP, who are again backing the Award for Individual Charity Supporter of the Year.

In 2015, the award went to Sarah Richardson of Banks Group, who was deemed to have gone above and beyond in her quest to raise funds for a local children's charity.

Motivated by her enthusiasm, staff at the County Durham-based company raised over PS11,000 for Integrating Children, which provides activities and trips for young people with disabilities.

The 23-year-old joined the company as a student on a summer placement two years ago and has since become a highly valued employee.

Throughout her time there, she has arranged a number of work-based fundraising events, including the popular Banks Bake Off cake competition, pub quizzes, ladies nights and raffles. She has also encouraged and organised teams of staff to take part in sponsored events such as Total Warrior, 10km runs and a sponsored walk in Hamsterley Forest.
