Federer defeats Chung Hyeon in Indian Wells quarter-final.

Tennis world No.1 Roger Federer beat South Korea's Chung Hyeon in a quarter-final at the Indian Wells Masters in California on Friday.

The Swiss, 36, won his 16th straight match as he defeated Chung 7-5, 6-1. Federer has beaten the South Korean, ranked 26th in the world, twice this year. The first win was in an Australian Open semi-final in January.

Federer served 12 aces and broke Chung, 21, four times.

Chung went head-to-head with Federer in the first set, reaching 5-5. But Federer dominated the second set.

"It was a great atmosphere," said Federer. "It was breezy. Yeah, and he's a great player. I'm happy I found a way."

Federer's 16-0 record since the start of the season matches his streak at the same time in 2006.

"It's a great start," Federer said. "Hopefully I can do one more and beat my best streak on Saturday."

Federer played his 12th Indian Wells quarter-final following his 60th tournament win on Wednesday. He is 10-1 in quarter-finals matches at Indian Wells. He lost to Spain's Rafael Nadal in 2013.

Federer was runner-up at Indian Wells in 2014-15, did not play in 2016 and won his fifth title last year.
