EIB LOAN FOR ENERGY IN UKRAINE.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) lent 200 million, on 21 September, to finance the implementation in Ukraine of the ambitious UkrHydroEnergo programme that will modernise and upgrade electrical energy generation from hydropower. The EIB loan will support the refurbishment and upgrading of 22 conventional and pumped storage hydropower plants at six power stations along the Dnieper river, in central Ukraine. Once completed, it will extend the economic lifetime of these renewable energy facilities and increase available electrical capacity by 10%. The project will also improve the operational performance of Ukraine's power system and assist in its synchronisation over the medium term with the European electricity transmission system. The project is co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
