Council tax benefit lost.

OLDER people in St Helens are being urged to claim thousands of pounds in council tax benefit they are missing out on.

Age Concern says many pensioners are eligible for benefits but may not realise it, or think it is too difficult to claim the money.

It claims some could cut their bill by up to pounds 425a year. In 2002/3 it helped claw back pounds 290,000 for the town's pensioners. The charity is launching its annual Your Rights Week on Friday, April 16. Benefits that older people miss out on include Pension Credit, Housing Benefit,Council Tax Benefit or non means-tested cash such as Attendance Allowance.

Age Concern St Helens has organised one-to-one sessions, with information and advice officers at its offices in Claughton Street between 10amand 3.30pmon April 20-22.
