Calls to keep it secure.

RESIDENTS are being reminded to keep their homes secure after burglars got into two homes through open windows and doors.

The break-ins happened in the inner west area of Gateshead when thieves broke in through insecure windows and doors.

Officers are also reminding people not to leave items such as ladders in the garden as these can be used to help the thief gain access to top floors.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Hamilton said: "People may be vigilant to closing downstairs doors and windows, however, may think it's OK to leave an upstairs window open as no-one can get access. However, it's important to bear in mind there may be items left in outside used to gain access and we want people to be mindful of this." Extra officers are on patrol.
