BJP leader Naqvi seeks police protection from home ministry, says he's getting threat calls over his statement on Afzal Guru's hanging.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday said that he recently received a telephone call threatening him over his statement on the hanging of Parliament attack conspirator Afzal Guru.

Naqvi has written letters to Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and home secretary R.K. Singh seeking police protection. He said the call was made by unknown people.

"I received a phone call on February 16. They threatened me not to speak on Hafiz Saeed, Afzal Guru and other terrorists," Naqvi said, alleging that the government's response was casual.

Naqvi, however, said he would continue fighting against terror.

Welcoming the execution of Afzal Guru, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had said Guru was "a conspirator in waging war against the nation and responsible for attack on the temple of democracy (Parliament) in India."

"It is a late decision but in national interest. There was a strong anger across the nation due to the delay (in execution). Despite the late action, people in the country have heaved a sigh of relief and this hanging has given a message to the terrorists and the anti-national forces working against the country," he had said.
