This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, vol. 10, issue 1 (May 2011). It presents 11 chapters by international contributors, all demonstrating different ways to integrate three psychoanalytical perspectives (cognitive, neuropsychological, and psychodynamic) in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There is special attention paid to the question of whether psychoanalysis/psychodynamic treatment can work for children with ADHD, and the possibility of early trauma as a trigger of attention problems and emotional dysregulation. One chapter addresses the ultimate question in the field: is ADHD a real neurological disorder or a collection of psychosocial symptomatic behaviors? Other subjects considered are the neural and neurocognitive determinants of ADHD, the reality-sampling deficit and ADHD, and psychoanalytic conceptualization of the internal object in an ADHD child. The book includes two chapter-length case studies. ([umlaut] Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR)
