'Assassin' Barrera has nothing to prove - and Mitchell is a danger.

Byline: MARTIN WILLIAMS

REPORTS this week revealed Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera is to face Londoner Kevin Mitchell this summer.

Secondsout.com indicated the former three-weight world champion - the only man to ever beat Naseem Hamed - could box Mitchell at Upton Park on the undercard of Haye v Chisora.

I really hope not. The "Baby-Faced Assassin" is not so baby-faced these days.

Aged 37, he has not fought since February 2011 and lost to Amir Khan more than three years ago.

Mitchell is a very dangerous lightweight (ask John Murray, whom he beat in the eighth round of their tear-up last July) and is all wrong for Barrera.

Then again, he's a big name and will put backsides on seats. Boxing is a business, after all, and this will primarily be a business decision.

From a sporting point of view, the man whose CV includes victories over Erik Morales, Naz, Paulie Ayala, Johnny Tapia, Kevin Kelley and Kennedy McKinney has done all there is to do and will stroll into the Hall of Fame at Canastota.

I just hope he does so without more losses to people he would have destroyed in his prime.
