Remarks: Hoffstetter (1974) proposed Simiiformes as a replacement name for Anthropoidea, apparently on the basis of insufficient grounds (Delson, 1977), although it has several advantages such as avoiding the standard superfamily ending in -oidea for a taxon above the family-group level (see Delson, 1977, and Hoffstetter, 1982, for further details).
