Animal Crossing: New Horizons had Nintendo’s “best start ever” for a Nintendo Switch game, the company announced Thursday in its quarterly earnings report. Nintendo sold 13.41 million copies of the game worldwide in its first six weeks of release, which covers the period through the end of April. The vast majority of those sales — 11.77 million — came in the first 11 days, from the game’s March 20 debut through March 31.

New Horizons is currently ranked seventh of Nintendo’s list of top-selling Switch games, although that list only tallies sales through the end of the company’s latest fiscal year on March 31, so it uses the 11.77 million figure. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains the top seller with 24.77 million copies, while New Horizons currently sits right behind Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! — but will surely surpass it once the more recent sales are taken into account.

For comparison, Nintendo has sold 17.37 million copies of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield since its Nov. 15, 2019, release date. At that time, Nintendo said those games were “among the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch games of all time,” with more than 6 million units sold during the launch weekend.

During an investor call, Nintendo shared more details about sales performance, including that there are now 27 Switch titles with sales of more than 1 million copies. Eighteen of those are Nintendo games, and the other nine come from third-party publishers.
