Adult Scooter designed to travel over 10 miles on a single charge. The future??
5 out of 5 stars
Adult Scooter designed to travel over 10 miles on a single charge. The future??
After purchasing a Bird Air Im very impressed with the Segway E45. The non puncture tires were a very important deciding factor. Shock absorbers make a difference because the Bird Air doesn't have that feature. The throttle feels powerful and the speed is controllable to experience riders. Braking is customizable via the segway app. I changed it from light to meduim and there is also heavy/strong brake power. There is also the traditioal step break. The scooter can be a traditional kick scooter if the battery depletes. I travel to work at night full power sports mode with the headlights on and can make it 5 miles with about 60% battery left from a full charge. Another 5 miles home without the headlight and stop to the store on the way home still with 30% after the 10 miles driven. 40 pounds feels like a great quality adult scooter. Customizable lights to be seen at night via the app. It keeps track of your miles too. Now that i have over 100 miles driven on these e scooters i had to give a realistic review. No more expensive uber and lyft to work. The police see me all the time and dont bother me, just always pay attention to the law! Stay in the bike lane or as close to the curb as you can. Surrender the road and make it easy for cars behind you to pass, if police see you can handle yourself in traffic you'll become a recognized local driver. Perfect to drive to work and lock up and drive home for Free! Gas costs money!! This one takes time to charge but is worth it if you expect to drive 10 plus miles? And this thing is a monster uphill. 20%hill grade vs 8% on my Bird Air! Easy to fold and pick up fling over my shoulder and walk around with it. I weigh 150-160 and I can go grocery shopping carrying it on my shoulder the entire time even while scanning my own items. Its 40 pounds its truly not heavy. Speed is fine just remember humans om average run 5 mph. 15mph for track runners. And the record is 28mph. So the human body isn't designed to fall at those speeds! Find your style and take it easy. Understand its much faster than a bus that doesnt go directly to your destination. So relax and drive with 100% focus at all times. I drive with car mirrors passing me about 4 inches from my elbow. If you cannot drive in a straight line, practice until you can before driving in the street. The future is here so set the best examples to keep these things around! Drivers respect us, give us our space because we arent hiding in a car surrounded by protection sitting down with windows and a seat belt. Coexist and enjoy life!!Be aware of the neighborhoods you ride in at all times. White kids called me the N word as i drove past because they were jealous of my e scooter and unbothered energy. Stop at red lights and stop sighns. Make sure you are comfortable stopping at a stop sign and kicking to go again while maintaining balance. Always keep am eye out for rocks and other road hazzards. Make sure your reaction to rough terrain isnt push down hard on the acceleration! Always be in position to brake if needed. Bending your knees helps with turns. And dont be afraid to slow down as you turn for full control! Look out for potholes !!! If the streets in your state has potholes i suggest a helmet. Drive safe! And also research locks to always lock your machine down! The segway app is NOT secure enough. Psychically lock it & use a key! People who drive cars dont get to work for free but with this you can!

I've had this scooter for about a month now, and it does a very good job! I use it daily to get myself to class on a hilly college campus, so I don't arrive breathless. It can get me to around 16-18 mph on flat ground on full speed, and up steep hills at full throttle at around 10-14 mph. (and I am on the heavier side) It has only had one annoying quirk, which is that it sometimes stalls or refuses to go for a moment after turning on or after a longer full throttle. It will often do this after I stop to cross roads or turn in the road. It rarely lasts more than a minute, but often only 10 seconds or so. Then it comes back full force and I can continue on my way. It has pretty good breaking, the bell to warn pedestrians is helpful, and the turn signal is helpful when on the road. I only have about a 7-10 minute commute each way on the scooter, and it barely uses any battery. I do warn people though, the shock absorption is good but don't ride over gravel, messed up road or sidewalks, etc. It does okay on cut grass but you should definitely be mindful about your riding surface (I haven't crashed but I have worried about tipping on a few occasions due to road or sidewalk condition). Anyways, its pricey but its great!

This review is for the Ninebot F65u scooter.

I already owned a smaller version of the Ninebot Scooter (F35), which I loved and which gave me confidence to buy the F65U without regret on a Prime Day super-sale (and give the F35 to my teenage son).

This scooter is top-of-the-line: the best of all the electric scooters I have ridden, including all the brands of street-rental scooters. It is zippier, more stable, smoother, and nicer than the F35. The floorboard is wider, the motor is faster, it does go up hills with more power, it has nifty little (but bright) turn signals, and the 40-mile battery range is much better than the 12-mile range of the F35. It is worth the premium to me.

I weigh about 240 pounds, so the more powerful motor is very noticeable. The F35 motor is sufficient for someone my size, but the F65 motor is noticeably more powerful and is better going up hills. I can and have often gotten up to 20 mph. (Inflate the tires to their max when it arrives; they come only half-inflated so the tubes don't burst during shipping).

I have not pushed the battery to its range limits, but (like most EVs) the 40 mile range does seem a bit exaggerated: based upon ideal lab conditions, when the battery and motor are brand new, for a skinny waif, traveling downhill, with the wind. I have gone under 50% several times after traveling less than 20 miles. Nonetheless, the range is noticeably better than the F35; and the fact is that I do not have many trips over 20 miles each way where I would use a scooter.

For context, we live in Austin, Texas, which has some significant hills. Austin is also urban enough to make a "last mile" scooter helpful, especially when I have bad knees and a bad hip. I also used it to get to the pool on the UT campus, where parking is impossible. The F35 is more of a "last mile" scooter, whereas the F65 can serve as more of a primary form of urban transportation, especially in places like Manhattan or Chicago. (I used to live in Chicago; been to NYC many many times). It probably won't be able to replace your car in more spread-out cities like L.A. or Houston.

The F65 is heavier than the F35, but only by about 5-8 pounds, which is not significant to its 40-pound total, especially considering the significantly added range and power. Although the footboard is slightly wider than the F35, its "footprint" is pretty much the same as any other scooter, so it can go on public transportation if needed.

Like the F35, the F65 folds and fits into the trunk of my car pretty easily, which allows me to use it for "last mile" of any commute/trip where parking is not easy. (I also use it for changing venues during SXSW.) Folding and lifting it is easy for me.

The F35 did not have a turn signal, whereas the F65 does. It was not a selling point to me, but it is worth mentioning. I thought the turn signal would be just a nifty but unnecessary "bell and whistle." But the turn signal does give me more confidence riding alongside traffic because I can communicate what I intend to do much better. Without the centrifugal force of 27-inch wheels keeping you going straight, it is difficult if not dangerous to take even one hand off the handlebars to signal, like I do on a bicycle when in traffic. So on the F35, any turn (especially a left turn) was fraught with anxiety and multiple turns of the head to make sure no car was behind me, at all. With the signal, I can let cars know when I'm changing from "my line" much better. It is also bright enough to make a difference.

I have had one "pinch" flat, and because the tires are so small, it was INCREDIBLY difficult to change the tire: especially replacing the tire onto the wheel. (And I am a pretty strong guy with lots of tire-changing experience from cycling.) Pro-tip: deflate the inner-tube completely, move the edges of the opposing-side tire rim to the center of the wheel rim (more give), and lubricate the tire edges and wheel edges with soap and water to lubricate them so the tire slips on more easily. (I felt like such an idiot after I used the soap and water trick, which especially made replacing the tire MUCH easier).

The shock absorption is ok (mostly just the inflated tires), but hitting bumps is always going to be harsh on a scooter. I still avoid all bumps if possible.

The app interface is nifty and helpful for adjusting settings, but it is not as useful as I might have thought.
To put the scooter in "pause" mode, the scooter needs to remain powered on, which somewhat makes it even more alluring to would-be thieves (if they see it is unattended and the lights on the panel are all powered-on.) I do not feel comfortable leaving it in "pause" mode for even a few minutes. Instead, I still lock it up with my Kryptonite chain lock, which slips easily through the small front fork below the steering column.

In short, even though I am rather persnickety and I don't like to "sound like an ad" for other people's products, I do love this scooter and feel zero buyers remorse. I use it all the time. I even "run" my dog with it (he runs alongside me) so that he gets more exercise than just walking.

**UPDATE** I spent $800 on this thing and within 3 months it is functioning at a fraction of its original capability and I’ve only put 125 miles on it. If you do the math, that’s $6.40 a mile. I would have just been better off driving to work and paying $15 in parking every day. I am regretting this purchase. To be clear, I absolutely loved this thing. Babied and cared for it. When you invest this much money into something that’s this expensive and is supposed to make your life easier, that’s what you do. $800 is a LOT of money. Charged it every couple days, never above 85% and never let the battery completely drain. And NEVER brought it outside when there was even a chance of precipitation. After all, I had read all of the warranty issues others had detailed in their reviews. A few weeks ago, after fully charging it, and noticing it wasn’t going over 14 mph on flat land in sport mode (where it usually got 19mph) it completely lost speed about 1.5 miles in to my 2.4 mile trek to work. (For a good time, use a 44lb electric scooter as a kick scooter, even on flat terrain, my legs were shot! NOT fun.) The app said there was still 46% battery left. Weird. When I finally walked it home later that night and plugged it in, I discovered that somehow the battery was down to 0% on the actual scooter battery display. 0% from 85% in 2 miles on a scooter that’s supposed to have up to a 28 mile range?! Something was definitely wrong. So I fully charged it again and for my next commute made sure to bring the charger with me. This time though I made it all the way to work, it was down from 100% to 27% - at least according to the app again which was generously wrong last time. So I charged it while at work for the ride home. I contacted Segway support. Since it is not beeping an error code number (bc fun fact, if your scooter beeps you’re supposed to count the beeps and add them up. A long beep means 10 and short beeps count for 1, so a long beep plus 3 short ones is error code 13 I guess?) they’ve decided I need to pay to ship the faulty scooter which should still be fully under warranty to their service center in California. (I am in Massachusetts.) Cool. But in addition to that, their email also says that if it gets there and whatever is wrong with it isn’t covered by warranty, they don’t fix it and I have to pay to ship and insure it back. Cool again. Oh, and that shipping? Yeah. It takes 15-20 BUSINESS DAYS. SHIPPING TIME ALONE. JUST TO SHIP IT BACK.

I’m not thrilled with the scooter malfunctioning so quickly and with so low mileage. I’m not thrilled with having to pay to ship back what I’m assuming should be a covered warranty issue. (I will be less thrilled if they decide not to cover it.) And I’m not thrilled with the fact that on such an expensive item, a big company like Segway can’t spare the change to ship it back in any reasonable amount of time. Like. Even a week for ground would have been totally acceptable. But 15-20 days AFTER it’s finally (hopefully) repaired?! By then it’ll be too cold to operate it outside. I know things happen. But I probably should have just saved my money and kept riding my perfectly good bicycle everyday. Never had any problems with that. This thing was supposed to make life easier, not be more of a hassle. I’m disappointed. (Except about the party lights underneath. Those are still awesome at least. One silver lining.)

INITIAL REVIEW: This thing rocks! I use it to commute 2.4 city miles to work and this thing trucks along like a champ! I even got it going 21 mph down a hill once!!! But regularity get it going 19mph on the flat parts of my commute. (I am 5’4” and weigh 145.) Usually, in sport mode, it handles most hills within its incline limits easily at around 13-15mph. It gets me to work in about 10 minutes and then it’s super easy to fold up and stash! (Though I admit I did need to read the manual to figure out how.) I normally would write a list of pros and cons, but all I can think of are pros. (Okay. Except that it’s ONLY rated IPX4. Not being able to risk riding it when it’s a little wet on the ground kind of stinks. I’ve heard nightmare stories about the warranty being voided if there’s any sign of it being exposed to water.) My favorite thing about it is the PARTY LIGHTS underneath which were a huge selling point for me. In addition to just looking darn cool, it’s also nice to know I’ve got a little extra visibility to cars on the road when commuting home very late night/early morning. Changing the colors and the light pattern allows you to add your own personal style. (Rode it to our city fireworks on the 4th and set it to red and blue!) I also like the aesthetic of the scooter itself. And the brake light and headlight options are really nice to have. Very bright. It charges easily and fairly quickly considering the size of the battery with the included adapter and you can even adjust the max charging % in order to extend battery life. It’s a little heavier than I thought but very manageable to transport when not being used. The controls are easy to use. The adjustable intensity brake works well even on hills and the rear fender foot brake is a great safety feature for backup. It’s comfortable and feels sturdy to ride on. I think the weight of the extra battery really helps with this. I haven’t tried any but I imagine lighter scooters might not handle bumps as well. (And the city I live in is notorious for not having the greatest paving.) I think the solid tires help with that too and I love the peace of mind of not having to worry about a flat. I was definitely a little nervous making a big purchase like this bc of some of the less great reviews I read (which seem mostly to be written by people who do not understand that you need to set it up and watch a quick video and read the manual), but am happy to report that I’ve had a really good experience with the product. It does everything I hoped it would and has already saved me a bunch of money and time on gas and parking! I would definitely recommend this scooter!!

The scooter is very good. Very fast. I just bought this today. I charged it to 83% the mobile app said I had 8.6 miles of range left. I took my first ride and it only lasted 3.9 miles before the battery was completely drained. So don't rely on this if you have more than 6 miles of commute without ability to charge it in the middle. Other than that it works perfectly. The mobile app is nice. The acceleration feels nice. The regenerative braking is really good and stops pretty quickly from the topspeed. Build quality is solid. The extra tire and tube in the box is very nice to have.

To Segway, i was just recently involved 2 days after receiving the scooter in to an accident. I was hit by a slow moving car. The driver was looking away as he crashed into me on the pedestrian walkway. Thanks to my Jui Jitsu training i was able to roll safely away from the car and suffered minor bruises.
The scooter however was damaged mostly from the back but otherwise i was able to continue my journey to work.
All in all I recommend this scooter highly for its robustness and reliability.

Really good, easy to assemble and to ride. I would recommend this to anyone in search of an electric scooter.
