The Los Angeles Dodgers are in discussions with the St. Louis Cardinals on a deal to acquire utilityman Tommy Edman, league sources tell The Athletic. The New York Yankees also have an interest in Edman.
No trade had been completed as of Sunday evening.
Edman, 29, has not appeared in a game for the Cardinals this season after undergoing offseason wrist surgery and spraining his ankle during his subsequent rehab. The Dodgers have scouted Edman during his rehab, a source said, and concerns about the ankle are part of the club’s calculus.
His appeal to the Dodgers, however, is obvious.
