About this mod

Removes running zombies from the game. Only freaks (special zombies) remain untouched. contains Versions for "QMJS Extended Functions Mod-V2.01 YOSE" mod as well as YOSE base game. "Breakdown" and "Lifeline" are not supported.

What does it do?

This mod replaces the running standard zombies from the game with standard slow zombies. It also replaces some special fast zombies (like the crouching ones, that spawn in infestations or sometimes randomly, then get up and turn into standard fast zombies), but every other zombie that is classified as "Freak" by the game, is untouched and will spawn normally and be as fast as it was without this mod.

Freaks include:
  • Ferals
  • Bloaters
  • Juggernauts

What exactly did you do?
The game has - hidden in its configuration files - some definitions for so called "zombie groups". The game uses these to know what zombies to spawn and how they should behave. These are - for example - called "ambient", "ambush" or "infestation". Inside such a "zombie group", a couple zombie types are referenced. For example, the "infestation" group spawns some "fast zombie"s, some "slow zombie"s and some "screamer" freak zombies. I simply replaced all occurances of "fast zombie" in every spawn group with "slow zombie".

Does that mean, fast standard zombies don't exist anymore?
I didn't delete any definition of "fast zombies", or animation groups or anything else. I simply replaced every reference to those. So no, fast zombies still exist, the game simply doesn't spawn them any more.

Are missions broken?
If a mission explicitly spawns "fast zombies", I think my mod won't stop this. So, no. Up to now, all missions where perfectly playable.
If you experience a broken mission, please let me know, and I'll try to fix it.

Which version is it for?
It requires the YOSE version of the game, but only Main Story. Lifeline and Breakdown are not supported (yet).
It also supports the excellent QMJS Extended Functions Mod-V2.01 YOSE mod.

Can you make a version that has absolutely no fast zombies, so even freaks are slow?
Honestly, I don't know yet. I tried playing around a bit with changing animation groups and other definitions, but it doesn't yet work. I am definitely trying to.

Can you make a version where zombies are REALLY slow? So no "pursue shuffle", only reeeally slow walking?
Same as above. I think it should be possible, since speed values are defined directly in the zombietypes-file ... but I need more time figuring it all out.

Installation
Just copy the folder "Game" from my archive into your steam YOSE game folder (Something like C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\State of Decay YOSE) and choose "Replace existing files" when asked. It also contains a backup of the original QMJS YOSE version of the file, in case you want to revert.

If you use the QMJS compatible version, you need to do your own backup of the file if you want to revert it alter. Or just re-download the mod and use the file from there. I am not allowed to redistribute it.

Incompatible with...
Every mod that alters the "zombietypes.win.bmd" file in "State Of Decay YOSE/Game/libs/class3/zombies".
