About this mod

Updates deprecated settings from the old DSOAL mod, in order to use the latest version on github. Also reduces overhead issues with heavily modded games from the old mod; which would cause sounds to cut out and games to crash.

Description:
DSOAL restores some Direct Sound functionality to the game so you can play the game in your preferred speaker configuration (such as surround sound or HRTF). These configs are just updating deprecated settings from the old mod and attempting to make it more stable in heavily modded games.

Install Instructions:
1. Download the latest version of DSOAL from github here.
2. Extract the contents of the Win32 folder into your root game folder.
3. Download a config from my page now, choose the surround or headphones HRTF config depending on what setup you use.
4. Install the config into your root game folder.
5. You should now be good to go.

Optional Installation Steps:
- Headphone users only: If you wish to try different HRTF table presets than the default, visit the original mod's page and download them from there, then follow the instructions in the readme for the hard mode installation (NOTE: DO NOT replace any of the files you just downloaded from github or the configs from my page with the files from the old mod, otherwise things will break. Just use the HRTF tables ONLY)

- Users of newer versions of Windows will need to apply the fixes listed here in order for it to work

- For Special K+DXVK users: Open your on-screen display, scroll down to plugins, add dsound.dll and dsoal-aldrv.dll to the list of plugins to use, then hit the load button right next to that in order for it to work. Set to load early if you experience issues like black screen on start.

- OpenALsoft supports emulation of EAX versions 2.0 to 5.0. To enable this you will need to set bEnableEnviroEffectsOnPC to 1 in your falloutcustom.ini (multiple caveats however, there are some issues with base EAX without other mods because of improper settings on acoustic spaces in certain cells by the devs, and slower CPUs will see a performance hit due to the nature of EAX emulation.)

-If sounds still cut out on your hardware try lowering or increasing either periods or sources in the config. Recommended to leave the other settings alone unless you know what you are doing.

Final Note:
These configs should also be able to be used in other bethesda games that use Direct Sound such as Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc. If they do not work however, let me know and I can look into it.

Please refer to the original mod's documentation if you have issues installing that aren't covered here, or would like to see more detailed documentation. If you have any issues with sounds still after using these configs, please let me know and I can look into it further :)
