A Legion quest mod that exploits the structure of Three-Card Bounty to facilitate a mission to eliminate First Recon. Multiple options are available to the Courier with regards to how they want to eliminate First Recon.

Five-Card Ante


[center]I've always thought the Samson Rock Crushing Plant was under-utilised in Vanilla New Vegas, and would be a great spot for a Bait-And-Switch type of trap to kill First Recon when you enlist their help to kill Driver Nephi.

This mod doesn't preclude the ability of the player to complete Three-Card Bounty; the deaths of First Recon are completely immaterial to actually completing that quest. So you can do both; complete Three-Card Bounty, and complete Five-Card Ante (this mod).


Note: This mod is completely unvoiced, so use xVASynth yourself to generate audio and their corresponding `.lip` files if you want them to have voices. I'm considering implementing AI voice generation in the future via ElevenLabs.


How To Start The Quest
Outside Camp McCarran, there will be an NPC named "Disguised Frumentarius" walking around in front of the El Rey Motel. Either be accepted with the Legion, or talk to Major Dhatri at least once, and he'll offer you the quest.


NOTE: Killing Driver Nephi before starting this quest, or becoming Hated with the Legion, will fail the quest, as after Driver Nephi is killed First Recon gets moved to

Requirements:
  • Honest Hearts DLC (needed for a speech check using the Sneering Imperialist perk)
  • xNVSE (hard requirement)
  • JIP LN (hard requirement)
  • JohnnyGuitar NVSE (hard requirement)



Load Five-Card Ante after YUP's .esm

Compendium of Avenues to Kill/Mess With First Recon:
  • Sneak: Pass a check of 50 to rig gas traps at Samson to incapacitate First Recon; subsequently sold into slavery for the Legion crucified at The Fort
  • Explosives: Passing a check of 50 will allow you to rig high-damage C4 explosives at the plant.
  • Speech: Convince Motor-Runner at Vault 3 to get help in ambushing First Recon
  • Alternatively, the Courier can pass this check with the Sneering Imperialist perk
  • Straight-Forward Combat once First Recon reaches Samson

  • Medicine AND Sneak: A check of Medicine of 60 AND Sneak of 50 will apply a nerve toxin, reducing FR's Health
  • Repair/Strength: A check of Strength of 8 or Repair of 75 will damage FR's equipment, reducing damage output (achieved by reducing their Guns skill)
