The Vulcan-M (sometimes referred to as the Malyuk, ukranian for baby) is an assault rifle developed by the Ukrainian company Interproinvest (IPI), as an evolution of the Soviet Kalashnikov assault rifle, reconfigured into a bullpup layout. It is offered in 7.62×39mm, 5.45×39mm and 5.56×45mm NATO versions and uses an AK-74-type flash hider, although can be equipped with an IPI-made suppressor as required. It weighs 3.8 kilograms and has a total length of 712 mm and barrel length of 415 millimetres. The rifle's effective firing range is 500 m at a rate of 700 rounds per minute and is cooled by air convection, for a longer barrel life. The overall design emphasizes ergonomics, with a drastically reduced recoil, and allows the user to fire the rifle, unload and load the magazine with one hand. To solve the problem of excessive gas emissions, a deflector shield is placed over the ejection port, allowing spent cartridge cases to fall alternatively between 45 degrees or downward while reduced gas is sent to the receiver. Finally, the upper receiver has a full-length Picatinny rail with 3 short Picatinny rails on the handguard, with the possibility of mount two more on the sides.
Vulcans are a relatively rare sight in The Zone, as the military has only recently deployed them. Still, some examples have been seen for sale by merchants like Sidorovich, something that probably won't make the generals happy when they learn that their shiny new toy is no longer their exclusive.
