GoldenEye: Source is a multiplayer only total conversion modification of Half-Life 2. It is a fan made artistic recreation, released for free, with a primary goal in mind; To bring the memories and experiences from the original GoldenEye64 back to life using Source' Orange Box Technology. As one of the premier and consistently released HL2 mods, GE:S has been seen out and about, reviewed by the best, and played by hundreds and thousands of PC gamers for Eight long years and running.
We want you to look at this mod and remember the first best multiplayer first-person shooter ever made. We are doing our best to bring in the opinions of the community to create a game that everyone is going to enjoy. But, we are not here to recreate the game exactly how it was in GE64. A lot of things have changed since they first designed the original, mainly in technology and gamers experiences. We are here to take the game even further but at the same time provide a lot of those fun elements that hardcore GE64 fans will enjoy. We've got experienced team members all across the board, from professional level, to amateurs looking to make it into the business working hard to make this dream a reality.
We focus on a daily basis to keep the original feel for the game that we all know and love. Adding new and fun game play features is our secondary mission, along with new maps and weapons that will keep the game feeling fresh. By getting together with all of our development team, and asking ourselves "What are the things we always wanted to see and do?", we think we created and implemented interesting ideas into the mod for fans and gamers to enjoy!
Despite the success of the mod it is with a heavy heart that we say good bye to Nickster our GoldenEye Source mod leader. He passed away on May 24, 2006, at his home at the age of 27. We as a mod team hereby dedicate this mod fully to Nickster. Tragically his life ended too soon and we as a team wish his family and relatives the best of luck after this difficult period. He would want us to continue on no matter what the costs and we sincerely hope he is in a better place. This mod is for you Nickster, from the GoldenEYE: Source team.

This post will stay in the announcements for as long as the mod is around.
While we continue development on the 5.1 update, we need to release a patch to address some vulnerabilities that have recently been discovered within Valve’s Source engine.
Our 5.0.6 patch is primarily to fix this recently discovered exploit in all Source engine games. Using this exploit, a server running malicious custom content can potentially execute arbitrary code on your computer. Though there have been no instances of this exploit spotted in the wild, due to the nature of this vulnerability we urge everyone to update as soon as possible.
If you launch the game without updating you will receive a notification that your game needs to be updated on the main menu.
Since everyone has to go through the trouble of updating, there are also a few essential fixes and features that we decided are worth including as well. Servers are not affected by this exploit, but we’ve included a server patch as well to fix a few other bugs. Read the full changelist here.
Though most of Valve’s popular titles have been patched at this point, if you’re planning on playing a Source engine game you’re not sure has been patched, we would recommend setting the following console variables:
cl_downloadfilter none
cl_allowdownload 0
These settings will disable all client-side custom content including sprays and maps, which will eliminate the attack vector this particular exploit uses. In most games this will probably not be necessary, but it could be worth it if security is a concern for you. Stay safe.

I could not find it anywhere - do frag grenades have as big radius as in the original game? They left the... biggest impact, in my memories.
Yes, explosions create big fire balls as on N64.

i have checked the FAQ but i still don't fully understand what legal issues prevents you guys from getting this game on steam as a free half-life 2 mod like zombie panic source or even as a free standalone game like No More Room In Hell. would you mind going into a bit more of detail? i hope i'm not overstepping any boundaries i just want to see the great work you all have accomplished get the recognition it deserves
Zombie Panic Source or No More Room In Hell don't use any copyrighted material, while GoldenEye: Source is using the James Bond franchise which is copyrighted by MGM, Danjaq, EON, etc.
For a safe release on Steam we'd have to get rid to anything coming from the James Bond world such as him himself, some of the guns, gadgets, locations, etc. So it wouldn't be GoldenEye anymore but a generic arena game with gameplay mechanics from the classic.
are there be editing tools that can help us make the campaign our selves? or how about you guys make a kind of a sign up forum for developers to join and a kickstarter to help you guys with making the campaign? I know I would want to donate money to the kickstarter, especially to help out a noble cause such as recreating one of the best games of all time. And judging by how you guys have worked on the multiplayer, I know you guys have the talent. You guys just have to member that you have fans and we will help carry out such an ambitious goal like recreating goldeneye singplayer (unless you guys don't want to recreate tha singleplayer, than disregard this comment)
We can't accept donations for this project, even less start a kickstarter or gofundme. We have the forums where developers can sign up for trial. All the tools we use for this are available for everyone, but you can't simply create singleplayer without starting all over from scratch.
Singleplayer is just not in the plans for this mod, you can check GoldenEye 25 which is a singleplayer remake on Unreal Engine which aims to release in 2022 made by a few old devs from this.
What do mean start from scratch? why not take the maps and add enemies and objectives?
As this is a Half-Life 2 mod. I don't see what is preventing us from using the SourceSDK to create our own singleplayer maps.
I am looking into this, and plan on trying to recreate the first level just as a test.
The devs might not have plans for making singleplayer, but they've made a framework. Least they can do is allow that framework to be used by people who cares about singleplayer.
You're completely free to try on your own, we're open source.
@Dieagamer, you have to modify the maps to adapt them to singleplayer again. It'd be easier to simply start all over.
You can't simply "just add enemies and objectives". You have to code all of that in and have it work properly.
How about a singleplayer campaign?
