I was a fan of Mass Effect up until Mass Effect 3 ****** up the writing and gameplay. Don't get me wrong, Mass Effect 2 was the beginning of the end in regards to the gameplay turning into Gears of War, and a lot of the RPG elements removed. But Mass Effect 3 was one of the greatest blunders in any work of fiction I've ever seen.
The game essentially turned into a hentai dating sim with occasional shooty bits. The dialogue system was mutilated, Shepard spoke dialogue without your input. The characters were written differently, and a lot of fan service was tossed in for good measure. Not to mention including Jessica Chobot as a love interest, which was so ungodly retarded I could hardly even comprehend what they were thinking.
The music turned to ****, the whole synthy sound the original had was, for the most part, replaced by boring piano compositions and an annoying horn. The side quests were absolutely atrocious, and most lacked even a basic narrative.
I still think Mass Effect 1 is the best of the series. I can play it over and over and never get bored. I just hope BioWare learns from their mistakes with regards to the removal of RPG elements, and maybe hires a writer more competent than Mack Walters. This is one of the few series' that I really got into. Make it right again, BioWare, before EA liquidates you.
And for the love of ****, bring back planet exploration.
I'd have to agree with most of what you said. There is a lot more I could say about ME 2 and 3 but doing so would take a few pages to post. Mass Effect 1 IS the best of them all and was really good to begin with. Also if you look at the staffing of Bioware nowadays you'll notice that most of the people who were originally in Bioware before the EA acquisition left. Bioware has been reduced to a brand name of EA now. No sense in hoping for quality from them anymore.

I have exact the same opinions. Maybe only regarding music we have different taste - many compositions from ME2 and ME3 are amongst my favourite ones. Except that, I totally agree with everything you wrote :)
I'm talking more about the music created specifically for Mass Effect 3. ME2 has a pretty decent soundtrack, and most of it was ripped out and put in ME3. But the Inception style music introduced in the third installment just didn't do it for me.
I'm still playing the ME3 (but only in coop), but when it comes to the SP, then you're absolutely right. This Jessica Chobot should be thrown out of the airlock, the BW/EA just tried to lick the ign's boot.
Yeah. It's almost as unsettling as seeing Felicia Day's face infused on an elf character model in Dragon Age 2. I felt nauseated the whole way through.
Personally I feel the first one had the most memorable music, and the best overall story, ME2 had the best ending and epic sounding music, ME3 was ok, but nothing special. Only memorable moment was the leaving earth scene, other than that it was just.....ok. I hope they do well with the new ME game they are making, and EA does not force them to release it too early.
