In the history of video games, the eighth generation is a term to describe the next iteration of video game consoles that are expected to follow the current seventh generation: Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3, and Nintendo's Wii. It also describes handheld game units released in the similar timeframe. The Nintendo 3DS was released on March 27, 2011 and Sony's PlayStation Vita was released on February 22, 2012 in North America.

when the new xbox exists it will be added. I'd doubt about the name 720.

Unlike other gaming generations, the 8th generation is started by handheld, then the console itself. I may be wrong though.

I know this comment is months old, but I'd like to point out that the DS and PSP came out before the 7th gen consoles did.

Did anyone else hear about Studio Liverpool getting closed down?
A shame. WipEout 2048 was still half-finished.

Just because they released it doesn't mean they actually finished it, there were still a lot of things to fix and add.
