Introducing Hexen: Trio mode, a PWAD mod file for Hexen which adds a DECORATE programmed "Player 2" on your side along with a Kameo present. Now experience Hexen in Trio (All three players at once) with 2 players playing and while the third one available as kameo. You control any of the three player classes while the AI will pick another one and the third one will appear only when you call him.
Also added Doom styled Nightmare difficulty and Brutal Doom's Power Fantasy for all three classes.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Depending on which player class you choose, the game will spawn a second player class. If you pick fighter, the game will spawn cleric by your side with mage as the kameo. If you pick cleric, the game will spawn mage by your side with fighter as the kameo. Lastly if you pick mage, the game will spawn fighter by your side with cleric as the kameo.
Unlike any human players or in game bots (Zandronum bots or Zcajun bots), the second player that spawns by your side are treated much differently. This is because they are spawned in as ACTORS and not any bots or real AI controlling them. Using DOOM’s monster AI, these ACTORS can walk over hazards, can provide assists but cannot activate certain linedefs that are meant for players which makes it a pain in the ass. The Computer controlled player class will already have all 3 of the weapons (including the powerful 4th weapon and excluding the 1st weapon) and they will never run out of ammo nor ever pick any items, inventories or manas and the reason is explained above.
In case you are stuck in a situation during a hub or a map, you can signal the AI player by pressing the Signal AI button (default bind is B) to send him your location and after that the player will spawn on the location you pressed the button, assisting you.
You can also learn about their whereabouts by pressing the Look where 2nd player is button (default bind is K) by which the camera will shift from the player’s perspective to the AI’s perspective for a brief moment before the camera shifts back to the human player.
The 2nd player cannot pickup any inventories but can actually use certain of them such as Porkalator, Dark Servant, Banishment Device, healing potions and Repulsion Discs. He can only use them once he has them. You can actually give away one of these items to the AI player in case you don’t need too many of them by pressing certain keys (check the binds in configuration in game)
What is a Kameo and how to call my Kameo?
A Kameo is a side character that is present alongside both the human and the AI player but at the same time he is not there. A Kameo will only join the fight once called and will only be there for a short period of time before returning to where he came from. Once a Kameo is called, he will teleport into the location, look for any threats and once the threat is available, he will attack them once and leave. Kameos will use their signature weapon to attack. For instance, the Fighter as Kameo will use Quietus, the Cleric as Kameo will use Wraithverge and the Mage as Kameo will use Bloodscourge.
A Kameo can only be called once the Kameo meter reaches to full 100. You can check the Kameo meter in your inventory which refills within a few minutes. Once full, press the Secondary Fire button (default bind RMB) and you will hear a demonic laughter, after that your Kameo will spawn and do your work and then again leave.
The only way to gain full 100 Kameo meters is to wait for a few minutes as it automatically refills.
Note: Be careful where you call your Kameo. If you are in a tight corridor (e.g: The stairway of Guardian of Steel or the tight passageway to a planet in Orchard of Lamentations) and you accidentally or by purpose call your Kameo, there is a high chance of you getting telefragged. Also don’t try to call your Kameo when you are in a room full of monsters and they have surrounded you.
BUGS:
If you press the Signal Player button twice, 2 or more AI players will spawn. The only way to prevent it is to press the button once and wait for him to spawn in your location.
In very rare cases, AI players can change classes. E.g: If the Mage is the 2nd player, the 2nd player can switch to Cleric class.
