She [Carmen Maura] anchors the wholesome intergenerational dynamic between her, Longoria, and Bazua. And through them, the show reexamines ordinary relationships with a loving lens, making Land Of Women quite palatable indeed.
Not every great series has to be innovative. Land of Women delivers a golden glass of entertainment, well-written and beautifully made. This is the kind of series you crave on a drizzly summer evening when the British weather has failed to deliver.
Land Of Women is a pleasant-enough show that has a story that will go down easy, with good performances sprinkled throughout.
“Land of Women” hits the notes you can expect from an Eva Longoria joint—romance and capers. As such, it’s pretty satisfying in the way the genre can be, hitting well-worn beats with aplomb.
Land of Women isn’t there yet at the end of its initial six hours; it’s a little too mellow, a little too flat, with too few surprises. But what’s there is already plenty sweet and pleasant — and best of all, it has the potential to evolve into something deeper and richer as the years go on.
This is the televisual equivalent of comfort food. There are no true surprises but enough stuff happens to keep you solidly entertained, emotionally rewarded and clicking on to the next episode.
“Land of Women” would work much better as a 90-minute film. Instead, stretching the simplistic storyline over six hours bloats the series with dull, cheesy dialogue, which does little to serve the characters or the varied plot points.
