If you are a Myst fan who has played one or all the previous iterations, this is by far the best version yet and deserves your attention with or without the supported VR hardware. If you are one of the few adventure game fans new to the series, you are in for a real treat, though be forewarned that all the same divisively esoteric design elements remain from the original.
At nearly 30 years old, Myst remains a remarkable experience, made all the more accessible and enthralling in this modern iteration. This is the best way to play Myst—especially in VR.
Myst is the best adventure game that has ever been created. The original game from 1993 was one of the very first games that immerse the player into a strange and surrealistic world. When I played it back in the days it came out I was completely overwhelmed by the great experience a computer game can deliver. Many modern games and game developers seem to forget that one of the main reasons why we players want to play video games is that we want to escape from the real world. The world of Myst is fascinating and mysterious at the same time, and the player needs to unveil its mysteries by exploration and solving a number of challenging puzzles. The game has been updated both graphically and gameplaywise over the years, but the modern version still lets me reminisce about the time I visited the little island of Myst for the very first time.
You have to play this if you are in fact a Myst fan... This one is the best yet in my opinion, and is totally worth your time. New people to the adventure game scene, you're in for a treat! There can be some weird design bits here and there. Enjoy!
The Myst remake does many things right. Unfortunately, it still has a few snags that would keep me from recommending it to veterans over realMyst: Masterpiece Edition. Likewise, most of the adjustments and revisions are made with veteran players in mind while the newer players may feel alienated by the lack of accessibility options.
Myst still holds up after all this time, despite not being the definitive edition of the game. The puzzles are still smartly done, even if they can be quite obtuse, and the tranquil vibe of the environment and presentation remains effective in both regular and VR modes. The inclusion of both movement styles and different control methods is great for accessibility, even if most people will default to the old methods, but the lack of improvements to a few areas and removal of certain things from realMyst is a letdown. This is still a fine title that is worthy of being in an adventure gamer's library, especially if they've never played it before, but realMyst remains the better buy if you intend on playing with a keyboard and mouse. That said, we're all secretly hoping that this causes Cyan to revisit and remaster the other titles instead of visiting the original title yet again in the future.
A well-done remake, especially if you can play it in VR. Gameplay changes are rather small, but randomized puzzles are a welcome addition. The photo mode, on the other hand, is botched. I’m not sure if yet another revival of Myst was necessary, but I must admit that revisiting this 26-year old classic again was an enjoyable experience. [11/2021, p.33]
Myst is a challenging puzzle game. I've never played the original it was based off of before, but I thoroughly enjoyed this remastered version that came with all the bells and whistles of modern graphics and was also incredibly optimized.
For one thing, this game is NOT easy. Everything you need to complete it is in the game, but it takes a very minimalistic approach and simply expects you to figure everything out yourself. I strongly advise against spoiling yourself by using guides, as it will ruin the fun of the game. My best advice to you is this: Examine everything carefully, try to find relationships, and rely on not only your sight but your hearing as well.
My only complaint is probably with the organ spaceship puzzle. It was highly inaccurate, and many online have expressed the same complaint about being stuck on it. If you experience trouble with this part as well, feel free to find the solution online and don't dwell on it.
My score of 7 primarily reflects the difficulty. The game is a bit too difficult for casuals. It was catered towards seasoned players who already have plenty of experience with puzzle games. If there were some sort of hint system incorporated in this remaster, I probably would've given it an 8.
I never played the original before, It's one of a very good puzzle game with interesting story.
but in this remastered it's very buggy and I have to restart save a lot.
For the graphic is stunning, It has DL SS and Ray tracing even I didn't see any difference.
Just improve a visual but anything instead is not impress, physically, interaction with item , character and motion still like 20 00s games.
Not gonna comment puzzles because I think those part are original 's claimed.
and they have randomize puzzles too but just random number no challenging at all.
This is single handedly the worst video game I have ever endured.
Everything is needlessly complicated and it takes you like 17 years to beat the game on your first time, and after that, you can do it in less than 30 minutes.
