At a certain point, it becomes challenging to find the ideal words to describe Granblue Fantasy: Relink because I feel that none are sufficient. Rare are the games that leave me feeling this way. Those games that, no matter how hard I try to find a negative aspect, I cannot. Those games that I want to keep playing for hours on end without a break, like when I was a carefree child. Those games that remind me why I love video games. And Granblue Fantasy: Relink is one of those games.
I refuse to play mobile gatcha games (in part because I know that I’m the kind of personality that would get too hooked on a favourite one if I found one). However, I have always found Granblue Fantasy’s vision and promise particularly intriguing. The fighting game whet my appetite, but Granblue Fantasy Relink has been my first real exposure to the property. Not only are the characters, setting, lore and world building every bit as enjoyable as I hoped from all the promo material I’ve seen over the years, but for a “spin-off” this is a much better action RPG than I was anticipating. While eight years is no doubt longer than Cygames hoped to spend developing Granblue Fantasy Relink, the wait has been worth it and this is, potentially, the start of a very big new property that will rival the best that Bandai Namco, SEGA and Square Enix produce.
This game is the most under rated game this year! Already cleared the story within 10hrs, but with over 150hrs of trying to build my charactera and go after the final end boss - Lucilous! Grinding away to get to the final weapons (Terminus)for each character has been great! I have been playing online with other people trying to fight the last end boss! It's been great. It's freaken awesome and amazing! The graphics are beautifully done and probably the best action Anime JRPG out there! The gameplay is super fun and great combat system with skill tree! I playing rebirth and I like this game better in terms of action gameplay. The story or characters isn't as tight as FF Rebirth but WOW Granblue Fantasy is the most under rated JRPG out there! Absolutely addicting and best bang for your buck! NO microtransaction! And the updates ALL been FREE! This is literally the most underrated game right now! I can't believe people aren't talking about this game! The Characters are amazing and the music is great! I think this plays like a tales game but BETTER! Gameplay 10/10 Story 9/10 Graphics 10/10 Music 9.5/10 Overall 9.5/10<
After quite the long journey, I can firmly say that Granblue Fantasy: Relink is one of the highlights of January 2024, especially for those who love a good RPG. If you are looking for some absorbing stortytelling, sick fights and amazing gameplay, then Granblue Fantasy: Relink is essentially tailor-made for you.
Relink presents an exciting world and well-developed characters and will send you into ecstasy with its fluid combat system. Unfortunately, the fantasy story lacks depth and originality to be completely convincing. The lack of cross-play is also annoying.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a superb action RPG that packs an excellent story, plenty of characters, and an incredibly moreish endgame for a substantial amount of content at launch.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a much less ambitious game than it seems, but its simplicity shouldn't necessarily be considered as a flaw. Cygames' latest work is fun and well polished, and it has an exciting combat system, great art and music. Unfortunately, the story falls short, and after reaching the endgame it devolves in a repetitive cycle of 80 or so hours of mindless fighting, without any real challenge or new ideas to keep things fresh.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink does a few things very well. Its art direction and music are gorgeous. The online multiplayer co-op combat gameplay works well. But as a single-player action JRPG, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is mostly quite generic. It’s also the story sequel to a game not released in North America, which really soured my ability to get invested in the story or characters. Action JRPG fans looking for more games in the genre might enjoy Granblue Fantasy: Relink, but there are too many other better options for non-diehard JRPG fans to recommend the game.
Very reminded of Monster Hunter. The story is okay but not the hook its the gameplay and how fun it is to play online. The grind is a bit at times but i loved crafting my characters and learning boss mechanics. Great game but not sure what will be in one year
A good game, with a lot to like. But I can't get away from the fact that its too effect heavy with all the skills and boss attacks, it sometimes gets too messy and difficult too see what's happening. That and some large boss arenas that can be infuriating at times.
I do enjoy when the grinding is fun mixed with a good combat system and a pretty decent end game in which you can sink in hours and hours of playtime either solo or in coop with random. The part that I personally didn't enjoy was the characters and the story, too weebish andpacked with all the japanese anime cliches that you can think of. Fortunately the story part is really short and for once I am glad for that.
EDIT: from a 7 it dropped to a 4 for me: artificial difficulty, Matchmaking not working, the grinding part it's extremely boring and without the online not properly working you are not able to get th bagdes needed to get the character specific sigils. Many important sigils are locked behind the gotcha system, be prepared to grind for tickets to spend in the roulette and if you are extremely lucky you get what you need.
+ Really good graphics.
+ 60fps mode feel very stable and is the way to go.
+ Setpeice moments in the game are good.
+- Battle system is pretty simple, not necessarily a bad thing.
- Story is horrible.
- 30fps mode feels alot less smooth than others games at 30.
- Squeeky voice acting makes it sound like a tv show for 5 year olds.
- The game is very repetitive.
- Some boss enemies take forever to go down, so boring.
= Story in RPGs is very important to me and with this game it fails hard and the gameplay doesn't really do much to make up for it.
