Save money on entry fees while getting some inspiration, become a Northern Lights contest judge! Can the Northern Lights Committee count on you to take part in judging the 2024 MAGC Northern Lights Contest? We really need your expertise. North Carolina’s contest is running earlier than usual so we’re off to an early start for judge recruitment. A couple of things for this year: • The timing of your judging commitment --judging this year takes place Tuesday, Feb. 6 through Thursday, Feb. 15 • Once again, you will be judging entries from colleagues in North Carolina. To entice your return, MAGC is offering a couple of perks. • $5 contest entry discount: Judges can get $5 off each entry they submit in this year's contest. • $10 award ceremony discount: Judges get a $10 discount on their ticket to the awards ceremony. • See what other organizations are doing: Judging may inspire you, and it may validate the work you’ve been doing. • Contribute to MAGC's success! Judging is one of the easiest ways to contribute as an MAGC member. Sound good? Ready to sign up? The next step is to fill out the judge sign-up form (it will take about two minutes). If we recruit 60 judges, each judge will have six entries to review. https://lnkd.in/gNWQwwQQ

Jury duty scams have become increasingly common in recent years. Scammers call individuals, pretending to be court officials, and inform them that they have failed to report for jury duty. They may then demand payment of a fine or threaten the individual with arrest if payment is not made immediately. It is important to remember that real court officials will never call and demand payment over the phone. If you receive a call of this nature, do not provide any personal or financial information, and do not make any payments. Instead, hang up and contact your local court to confirm whether or not you have been summoned for jury duty. Being aware of these scams and staying vigilant can help protect you from falling victim to fraudulent schemes.#knowbe4#scams

What Would John Rawls Think About Judge Caprio’s View on Justice? Over the weekend, I watched an interview with Judge Frank Caprio, famously known as the "world's nicest judge" on SkyNews Arabia. The interviewer asked Judge Caprio if his compassionate sentencing sometimes results in injustice or a failure to achieve full justice. To answer, Judge Caprio shared his perspective on justice. He defined it as “treating people the way they deserve to be treated”, and noted that sometimes strict application of the law might lead to excessive punishment. As I listened to Judge Caprio, I wondered what John Rawls would have thought about his definition of Justice. In his book “Theory of Justice”, Rawls presented the "veil of ignorance," a thought experiment where people design a society without knowing their place in it. The intention? To create rules ensuring fairness for everyone, irrespective of their social standing. Judge Caprio showcases the nuance and humanity required in individual judgments, while Rawls sets the stage for an equitable society at large. Both highlight the delicate dance between individual compassion and systemic fairness. As we navigate the intricacies of justice, it's vital to remember that every system needs a heart to truly serve its people. Rawls envisions the system, and Judge Caprio may be one of the many hearts that pump compassion into that system. #Justice #Compassion #Caprio #Rawls
