Months after Microsoft gained an observer seat on OpenAI’s board, the company is leaving the position of the non-voting seat. OpenAI said that after this change, there won’t be any more observers on the board. That likely rules out reports of Apple gaining an observer seat.

The recent events with OpenAI and X are a stark reminder that technology is powerful, but its power should not be concentrated in the hands of a few individuals. It's time to ensure that tech giants answer to the public, their employees and regulators at large. We must strive for transparency and accountability when building solutions for society #TechDemocracy #TechnologyForGood #PowerToThePeople

#technology #unitedstates #nobelprizesummit About 650 OpenAI employees, including OpenAI's chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, who posted on X that he "deeply regretted" being part of the move to oust Altman, are threatening to quit and join Microsoft to continue to work with Sam Altman. This is not a reflection on the OpenAI board which fired Altman. The commercial arm of OpenAI whose pursuit led to Altman’s firing could become mostly part of Microsoft to pursue a better and sober path to integrating AI into the economy under adult supervision at Microsoft with the company restructuring its investment of $13 billion. OpenAI with its current board can return to its ‘non-profit global open interoperable standards for safe AI’ roots, similar to IEEE internet, World Wide Web (WWW), and Open Geospatial Consortium, just as One World (TAMIRISA, https://www.tamirisa.com) is for global #sustainability. The non-profit employee-owned and operated corporation is the future of the corporation, https://lnkd.in/eZsCQ3-p.
About 650 OpenAI workers have threatened to quit if Sam Altman is not reinstated as CEO. That's out of its staff of 770. (Business Insider)

In a surprising twist, OpenAI employees' threat to quit if CEO Sam Altman was not reinstated appears to have been a strategic bluff. Despite their collective stance, insiders reveal that joining Microsoft was not a desirable move for the team, who pride themselves on being at the forefront of innovation. The real sticking point? A financial one, with a tender offer on the horizon that could lead to a significant payday for staff. This revelation not only sheds new light on Altman's position but also signals to the industry that OpenAI's influence may not be as unwavering as once thought. #AI #OpenAI #TechNews #Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #TechIndustry #SamAltman #StrategicMoves #IndustryInsights

While OpenAI say they will ban the use of Sora, its new video-generation tool, for political *campaigning*, this is scant consolation in this year of elections in Bangladesh, India, United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Russia, Mexico, and the UK. Take a look at the tool below and imagine it being used to skew thinking based on things politicians and other groups of people hadn't actually done or said.

Turns out it was just the very debate that has existed at OpenAI since Elon Musk and Sama disagreed. The brilliant reporters at https://lnkd.in/eyPFngCF got number of exclusives where they have been talking to OpenAI staff. My quick take is.. nothing to see here folks.. just the usual stuff you get in big platform shifts like the internet and the PC era - open vs closed, perfection vs move-fast-break-thing, centralised vs decentralised etc ————— "You can call it this way," Sutskever said about the coup allegation. "And I can understand why you chose this word, but I disagree with this. This was the board doing its duty to the mission of the nonprofit, which is to make sure that OpenAl builds AGI that benefits all of humanity." AGI stands for artificial general intelligence, a term that refers to software that can reason the way humans do. (Another person said Sutskever may have misinterpreted a question related to a potential hostile takeover of OpenAl by other parties.) When Sutskever was asked whether "these backroom removals are a good way to govern the most important company in the world?" he answered: "I mean, fair, I agree that there is a not ideal element to it. 100%."
