It’s Not My Job! This may seem a strange photo to greet you on a Monday morning. But here’s the story… I’ve taken my trash out to the community receptacle and the weeds along the path have done what weeds do in Florida…grow larger! The weeds were not on my property, and technically speaking, not my responsibility. But I decided to take two bags and fill them, taking a whole 7 minutes of my time. The path looks a little better, a little more cared for. I decided I would “own” the path. So, as we begin our work week, what might that look like where you are? What would it look like to take a little initiative beyond your technical job description? What would it look like to take “ownership” of something that will benefit others? What would it look like to bring some TLC to something that needs done but isn’t anyone’s technical responsibility? Maybe management will notice. Maybe they won’t. Don’t worry about that. Don’t do it for that. Do it because you care. Do it because you’re thinking “ownership,” not “rental”. Do it for the overall good of others. Happy Monday!

This weekend, my youngest turns 1 year old. It's amazing how much can change in just one year. 12 months ago: → I was scattered → Juggling a million tasks → Piecing together my vision → Struggling with early delegation Now: → My vision is one cohesive plan → I'm laser-focused on two things → Client success and business growth → Eliminating and automating what I can → Delegating what's left to focus on the big picture → Implementing Leverage for Growth → Leading Niche in Control by example This shift has allowed me to: → Add 9 client case studies → Implement a 12-week year → Take quarterly family vacations → Work less than 40 hours a week → Simplify the business and focus on 80/20 tasks → Develop long-term strategic partnerships But this post isn't about me. It's about YOU. We often underestimate our capabilities, Focusing on the gap rather than the gain. Wishing we were "there" when we should appreciate being "here." Happy New Year from Owl Be There Charlotte! I typically spend the day packing up Christmas decorations, watching some football, getting outside and of course enjoying a new year's dinner with greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread and pork tenderloin. I have a word for the year: endurance. I have set some achievable personal and professional goals (3 personal and 2 professional). I am also embracing the notion that "if you pack it you have to carry it." So as I apply that to life, what are some things that I can let go of? If I let go of these things will it help me achieve these goals? And that's why I like taking the decorations down today...it gives me time to reflect on last year and ponder about the upcoming one.

TIME IS PRECIOUS, USE IT WISELY: We hear that often, huh? When it comes to work, deadlines, projects, meetings, and responsibilities can keep us all pretty busy. I often devour my lunch at my desk so I can squeese in *one more* Teams meeting or chip away at *one more* thing someone else desperately needs. Time is precious, use it wisely. Yesterday at 1 p.m., our team took time to celebrate Brian DeMarco. He and his wife are about to welcome their third child into this incredible world. Our awesome team enjoyed a sugar rush and shared in laughter and an opportunity to connect. So fun! I will admit that it's sometimes uncomfortable for me to use a conference room for a party rather than a serious meeting. But this week, I had the rare gift of listening to Kelly Woodward, our fearless COO, talk about the trajectory of her 'wow-worthy' career, and she shared two things I hadn't considered in my work life: 1) Her mother was her mentor and role model. "Work hard and do right by people," Kelly shared, and 2) Time is precious. As busy as Kelly is running Houston's airports, she will always make time for the people who matter because time is precious. So I pose this question: time is precious; are you using it wisely? Are you leaning into the people who matter and make your work life better? Are you prioritizing people over tasks and deadlines? Are you truly connecting with others or do you simply see your team as a cog in the wheel? I challenge us all to find a reason to celebrate together because time is precious.
