Two costly mistakes I've made hiring and training dozens of recruiters over the last 5 years.. 1. Letting standards and expectations slip just because the person is a culture fit. If the minimum expectation is 4 hires a quarter, and they are always getting 2-3 hires, and you decide to let it slip just because they are a good culture fit and you like the person, you've then immediately SET new standards for the company. (Have the tough conversations sooner.) 2. Hiring experienced C and B players for their potential. It's hard to train and motivate people who are unmotivated and unwilling to change because most people don’t change.. Invest ($$) in the A players and retain them.
