Landsat Next: A New & Revolutionary Mission. This is what is stated on the NASA website. For those who want to check, here's the link: https://lnkd.in/dshZ3qR4 Here are some brief and interesting details about the new mission: - Expected launch between late 2030 and early 2031; - The mission will consist of a constellation of 3 identical observatories in orbit (launched by the same transport vehicle). The three observatories will be spaced 120 degrees apart at an altitude of 653 km; - The temporal resolution (revisit time) will be 6 days, a significant improvement. Landsat 8 and 9 currently have a temporal resolution of 16 days; - Each observatory will host a spacecraft equipped with a Landsat Next Instrument Suite (LandIS) that will collect 21 spectral bands spanning from visible to shortwave infrared (VSWIR), and 5 bands for thermal infrared; - All bands will feature improved spatial resolution. Visible, near-infrared, and shortwave infrared bands will have resolutions ranging from 10 to 20 meters, while other bands will have 60-meter resolution; - In total, Landsat Next will provide 26 bands, 15 more than the previous missions; - The LandIS on each observatory will acquire refined versions of the 11 bands inherited from Landsat to ensure data continuity; - There will be 5 bands similar to those on Sentinel-2 (from the European Space Agency's Copernicus program) to facilitate data fusion and synergy; - Landsat Next will include a water vapor band for atmospheric correction without the need for auxiliary data from other satellites; - Finally, this mission will collect data from all bands simultaneously, ensuring uniform lighting conditions across all bands. #remotesensing #spatialdata #geografia #geotechnologies #arcmap #qgis #arcgis #satelliteimage #landsat #sentinel #spatialanalysis

SWOT's mission is to monitor Earth’s surface water with unprecedented detail and accuracy, capturing the first global survey of the planet's surface water.
