The judges and I have already spent countless hours going through the 6,815 entries (35,000+ reviews so far), covering everything from VFX and animation to games, design, concept art, digital fashion, web, and product design. The skill and dedication these artists have put into their work is unbelievable. We recently played ESPIONAGE - our mobile escape room game - with the events and sales team at three of the fantastic hotels near Heathrow - London Heathrow Marriott Hotel, Sheraton Skyline Hotel and the Delta by Marriott Heathrow Windsor. And what a fantastic team they were! Not only was there serious amounts of competitiveness between the teams, but lots of enthusiasm and energy, as well as bowls and plates of snacks to keep everyone going. This is what Georgia, the Sales Manager had to say on Trip Advisor: "We recently played Escape in 60's mobile Espionage game. WOW, what a great afternoon of fun! Kathryn & Mike set up the game within 20 minutes and it was a great experience and got us all really thinking and working as a team. So on this side of a the world a lot of us are headed to Melbourne International Games Week and there's a lot of work going in from almost every screen agency in the region to promote their goals. As they should all be doing. But a word to the wise, go past the headline figures and dollar yield amounts if you're looking at setting up a studio somewhere. If you're looking at rebates, what's the detail on inclusion list? How onerous is the reporting? Same goes for grants, what does the process look like, more than just the cap on yield? Are there additional services? Travel grants that can help get you to the events you need to be at and are they flexible enough to get you to an event that might be perfectly appropriate for you, but not one of the usual ones? As for the entities driving all the mechanisms, do the people you're talking to with the programs have actual industry experience and if so, how much? What wrap-around services do they provide? What are the mentorship programs like and do they provide regular workshops for upskilling you and your staff? What are the possibilities they can get you onto showcases at major events? My personal opinion is sometimes us that work in games stimulus focus on everything about the dollars and forget about the ecosystem and if it's someone scouting for a location to set up- particularly as a small or medium studio, that ecosystem matters. For us in our place in Aotearoa, we don't have the dollars to spend that some larger programs have, but we *always* think about the ways we can make the money we spend more effective and how we can invest in people and skills rather than just projects.

To all the clients who stood by your ideas and all the briefs you had to fight. To all the sleepless nights and endless changes. All those moments of seemingly fruitless efforts look like they were all stepping stones to the stairs leading to the Palais. From display to shortlist to Lion, every day you spend there just makes you feel you are in a paradise of art. You feel you have left the earth somewhere behind and now you are with like minded people who have joined you to create another beautiful place in this space somewhere. A place that has beautiful solutions to almost all the problems in the world. A place that never sleeps. But keeps the dreams alive. And while once is just not enough, once you visit there you can live in its memory for ever. A place every creative person must visit. A festival every advertising person must attend.
