📚 In San Francisco's Castro District, a determined individual is combating book bans — with literature. 🌈 Becka Robbins identified the most effective way to resist the unprecedented surge of book bans: by distributing those very books to people being deprived of them. ⤵ Robbins has distributed 740 books so far to states including Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama. #LGBTQ #News

Fred (Dr. Smith) is ok to you with a three-fold question: are you like the first, in terms of higher education management, to write a LGTBQ(+) ‘romance’ novel; I know you when you were at CSLA and I didn’t know that you ‘maritime’ service knowledgeable (and, I will look it up, but what is ‘maritime’ service); and do you mentor young, black (either adolescent) males in matter of (higher) education? I saw … a report, from the CSU(?), recent data black males bachelor degrees in psychology. Curious: also crime data indicates black males relatively high rates (in general?): do you see a pattern … suicide - an relation that is crime of life in black environment while study of psychology does need to black sustainability? I suffered … a brain injury in 2022 … student in master of political science (where some emphasis in crime/law).
As the Higher Ed professional who also writes (and reads) romance novels when time permits… Forgot to share this with you earlier. I turned in my 6th novel manuscript this summer during summer break. It’s a romance novel featuring Black & Queer characters and set in San Francisco & Oakland. It’s also set in the world of Higher Education and LGBTQ bars in the Bay Area. It’ll be out late Spring 2024 or Summer 2024 on Bold Strokes Books, my publisher since 2015. I will keep you updated... cover reveal, release date, ask for quotes and blurbs, call for early readers and reviewers and postings about the novel, setting up book events, all that! https://lnkd.in/gCWdWyBh https://lnkd.in/gBTDrhqU ✍🏾📚🌈🎓🥂#newbook #romance #romancenovels #lgbtqbooks #mmromance #highered #sapro #highereducation #castrodistrict #sanfrancisco #oakland

I cannot overstate my disappointment with Scholastic and their decision to essentially ban books by authors who are primarily Black, brown, LGBTQ+ and disabled. As a kid I loved book fairs! I know firsthand the transformative power of books and I vividly recall how, all at once, 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings' made me feel seen and fueled my passion for writing as a teen. As the founder of Black Girls Unscripted — an intergenerational org on a mission to amplify the voices of women and girls through storytelling — I can attest to the life-changing impact OUR stories have on our community. While book banning — the most widespread form of censorship — is not new, it has become a key tool for the creation of anti-black policies that not only perpetuate intolerance and ignorance, but keep people (of ALL ages and backgrounds) from learning about the factual history of racism and oppression in this country. According to stats provided by PEN America (years 2021–22), forty percent of banned books have a main or prominent secondary character of color while twenty-one percent directly address racism. This is all very intentional... Please give Amanda's video a quick listen, then visit pen.org/action to let them know you support their efforts to stop book banning. #fightcensorship #diversebooks #representationmatters #bookbanning #literacy #reading

Founder of BetterGrowth, Public Speaker, 4 year Dean of CCO School, CS Executive Consultant and Coach, Proud Trans Man 🤓 🏳️⚧️
I know. I know that most of the people who started following me because of my influence in the Customer Success and Leadership space are over all of my posts on queer rights. I know. I know that the majority of the world would like to support us but would prefer to think about other things. I know. I know that if I focused on revenue growth, networking, and influencing in the field I’m a longtime consultant in, my follower count would grow tremendously and I’d regain the popularity I once had when that was a big part of my focus. I know. I know that my LinkedIn algorithm continues to decline as I only focus on Trans and Queer issues these days. I know. And I can’t stop. Because I also know. I know that books about queer representation have already been pulled from most libraries. I know that queer children around this country are being detransitioned, and that suicide rates of these youth are climbing. I know that states are banning rainbows and making a mockery out of queer people. I know that last year alone, more anti-LGBTQIA+ bills were introduced than in the previous decade combined. I know personally that LGBTQIA+ humans are moving out of states they grew up in, like Florida, in droves. I know that parents of Trans and Queer youth are suffering, scared, and afraid of what to do next. I know that most of my LGBTQIA+ influencer friends, including myself, are not booked for June, like we have been for years in the past. I know that companies, that have been longtime supporters of LGBTQIA+ rights are backing down, taking down, minimizing their support this year. I know that I would give up every like, every penny of my wealth, and anything else I have to give, to make this stop. To make you care. To make you know. To make you see. To make this world safe for everyone. I know. I know that I’m fighting an endless foe. I know. #lgbtqia+ #lgbtqiarights #lgbtqiapride #transrightsarehumanrights #transrights #pridemonth #queer #mentalhealth

This past summer, I helped the GLBT Historical Society digitize audio files from the Mary Richards collection. The collection contains tape recordings by Mary Richards, a news reporter for the LGBTQ Newspaper called "The Bay Area Reporter." The tapes highlight 1980s-1990s LGBTQ life in San Francisco and the U.S. overall, discussing topics such as the AIDS crisis, Queer community building, and LGBTQ activism. The experience was fulfilling. As a PhD student, I am used to using archival materials for my own research. However, this role required me to think like a researcher in a different way. While writing metadata for these tapes, I found myself asking questions such as: what kind of researcher might be interested in these tapes? What keywords would help interested researchers find these tapes? How can I help make these tapes as accessible as possible for any researcher or interested party? Below, you can read more about my experience working with these materials. I highly encourage everyone to engage with the Mary Richards collection in some way. It helped me gain a deeper connection to queer history, and I am confident it can do the same for others! Link to story: https://lnkd.in/gP3_q-Z8

Nice job done Foods for thoughts regarding invention, innovation n discovery. Let’s talk about what these "Eureka!” moments do say about the scientific process and creativity. Since the 2nd century B.C. Greek polymath Archimedes takes a bath and figures out how to calculate volume and density. These are iconic “light bulb” moments in the history of science. Or, as Archimedes reputedly said when insight struck, Eureka! In the late summer of 1666 Isaac Newton sits beneath an Apple 🍎 tree in his orchard at Woolsthorpe Manor England, contemplating mysterious universe. Suddenly an apple hits him on the head. “Aha!” he shouts, or perhaps, “Eureka!” In a flash he understands the law of universal gravitation. In 1687 published his landmark work the “Principia,” in which also features his three laws of motion. 2nd law is F=ma Antoine Laurent Lavoisier In 1785 discovered the Law of Conservation of Mass (or Matter). "In a chemical reaction, matter is neither created nor destroyed". Between 1847, Julius Robert, James Prescott Joule , n Hermann discovered the law of conservation of energy: Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form to another. For centuries, scientists had considered energy and mass to be completely distinct and unrelated to each other. In 1905, Einstein published the Special Theory of Relativity E=mc2 The equation revealed that mass and energy are different forms of the same thing. The Einstein coefficient-Laser Lights and Photovoltaic cells-Renewable Energy. Einstein himself was surprised by the finding, calling it "amusing and enticing" and wondered "whether the Lord is laughing at it and has played a trick on me."
