👩🌾 Women's empowerment is not just a nice idea, it's a strategic move towards sustainable agriculture. During the launch of PPSA's Women's Cohort, Morination Agricultural Products President Sharon Jean Gonzales- Gulmatico highlighted the important role of women as backbones of our agricultural sector, playing a crucial role in food production, food security, and rural development. As one of the leads of the Women's Cohort, Sharon highlighted the ongoing gender disparities that women farmers face. They struggle with land ownership, limited access to resources, and lack of decision-making power, which hampers their ability to seize opportunities. Moreover, women are disproportionately affected by climate issues, making it even more crucial to equip them with the necessary tools, skills, and resources. Today is International Women's Day, and in light of this we would like to emphasise and celebrate the important role of women small-hold farmers worldwide. They are key contributors and play a vital role in the transition toward a resilient food production system that has the capacity to feed a continuously growing population. Once they are provided with access to innovative technologies, they can produce more food, without adding stress to water resources or the environment. But they need a kickstart to get this access and make the transition.
