I love this concept shared by Jillian Als. She says, "Do you have a personal board of directors? 👀 Who are the people you call on to help you make the big decisions, see the things you cannot see, give you the insight you otherwise hadn't considered?" I firmly believe that #mentorship is meaningless without #sponsorship. Great mentors not only give great advice but are also great connectors. What does that mean? It means that your mentor/sponsor is fully invested in your success and achieving your goals, is willing to connect you to people, and opportunities, will talk you up, and will create opportunities for you to explore your potential. They are the true champions of your work and of you! My former boss Hugh Molotsi once told me that as an entrepreneur you want to ask yourself the question, 'Are you surrounded by pigs or chickens?' It is a terrible analogy, especially for an animal lover like me. But it makes an important point. It is another way to say that you want people who are fully committed to helping you (as a pig would give up its life to give you bacon) versus chickens who only give an egg and move on. The analogy points to examining the level of commitment you get from the people you seek advice from. 2 Years of experience in Public Accounting working for Moss Adams, and I have a few thoughts I'd like to share: 1. + First impressions are huge, second impressions solidify (or correct) the first - 2. + Culture will differ between each leader/in-charge, but it is the internal intangible that matters most to the engagement - 3. + Incremental positive reinforcement can resonate for weeks/months, whereas negative reinforcement can linger for months/years - 4. + Technical accounting skills will develop over time, don't sweat it - 5. + The ability to ask the right questions at the right time can dramatically shorten the learning curve - 6. + A focus on the People with an emphasis on relationship building and coaching will foster buy-in and ownership of work - Grateful for my first two years of experience and excited for what the future holds!

WOW! 3 years have come and gone in the blink of an eye. It feels like yesterday I jumped feet first into a role that I really didn’t know what to expect. Sure, I had been on the other end of recruiting calls and really didn’t love that part of the experience, to be honest… But, the pandemic had shifted things for me and I decided why not entertain a conversation... and I am SO grateful I did. What interested me most was my conversations with Kim, Laura, Beth, and Katelynn (among others). What they had shared they loved about their career in recruiting thus far just happened to align with a few core values important to me: ✨Connecting with people✨ ▫️ This was a large reason why I left public accounting in the first place, and something I had lost in my yoga/fitness/retail sales journey during the pandemic, and missed greatly. ✨Helping others✨ ▫️ Coming from an accounting background, this holds a special place for me in an effort to ‘match’ organizations with finance and accounting talent they can retain for years to come. From a candidate perspective, the ability to bring opportunities to the table they may not have even known about or that align with what is most important to them in their life today. ✨Emphasis on a team environment and focusing on long-term relationships (versus short-term gains)✨ ▫️ You win some, you lose some’ – one of my favorite quotes and it never feels good to ‘lose’, but with my background in teaching yoga it is an easy one to lean on when you focus on the big picture, focus on nurturing relationships, and focus on the idea that what you put out into the world will return itself to you in dividends. ▫️So for today - no job postings, no market insights, nothing to share here other than an appreciation for Truity Partners, my team, and to those I have had the good fortune to cross paths with along the way… THANK YOU for entertaining my cold calls, for laughing along with me in my voicemails, for getting honest on what's important to you, for your trust, and for so much more to come. For Women’s History Month, we’re recognizing the successes and achievements of BARDA employees. Meet Connie Song, Lead Contract Specialist, Division of Contract Management and Acquisitions. One of Connie’s greatest career achievements to date is having the opportunity to support the BARDA mission and working with such a talented and dedicated group. She added, “specifically providing contracting support to the Division of Research, Innovation and Ventures (DRIVe) in launching new and novel program initiatives.” Connie’s advice to young women who are just starting their professional careers is: “stay true to yourself and pursue your passions. Those incremental steps (some of which will feel like steps backwards) toward achieving every goal you set out to tackle is part of the experience that makes those more challenging moments worthwhile — there’s no failure in learning.” Women strengthen public health and national security with their dedication to meaningful work.
