#Loudoun County’s monthly auction of surplus items has been recognized as one of the top online auctions on the PublicSurplus.com platform, which hosts auctions for more than 2,500 public agencies. Loudoun County was among the top five counties in terms of sales volume and in the top 10 of sellers overall in 2023. The county’s surplus auction began as an annual, in-person auction of vehicles. In 2000, it progressed to a popular brick-and-mortar store that was open to the public several days a month. In 2008, the county joined the world of online auctions, expanding the customer base far beyond the county’s borders. In addition to the revenue it generates, the surplus auction helps keep items out of the Loudoun County landfill by repurposing them. More information about the auctions may be found at loudoun.gov/surplus. Here are some of the interesting surplus items advertised for sale over the years.
