Mom, musician and recruiter with a focus in tech. I am passionate about networking, building community and bringing positive opportunities for personal and professional growth to others.
I believe it is important to keep human decisions at the center of the recruitment process. Earlier today, I interacted with a chatbot w/ AI parsing functions on a Fortune500 career page. I was intrigued because there is so much buzz about tailoring the language in your resume to that of the job description so you can pass the ATS AI tooling and get your application in front of the eyes of an actual person. Out of curiosity, I uploaded a copy of my resume into the system. My resume closely aligns with the language used in my LinkedIn profile. Based on the document I provided, the AI tool told me I was well-aligned for many of the company’s current openings. It then generated a list of jobs, most of which I am not qualified to do. Examples of my recommended matches were - Plumber and Steamfitter which requires a current NYS plumbing license and Steelworker - which requires previous welding experience. My experience confirmed my belief that human logic and decisions must be at every stage of the recruitment process. Yes, tools are here to make our lives easier. Use automation to weed out any absolutes, like necessary professional licensure and other concrete things. Do not rely on it to scan the resume and make a decision based on key phrases. Human existence is nuanced and complicated, and experience needs to be specifically asked and answered. We must not rely on machines to make the decisions that deeply affect the lives of so many people. #candidateexperience #recruitment #ATS #automation
