Beyond recognition lies action. This International Women's Day, let's echo the call to 'Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress' with the inspiring journeys of the women we work with. In Asia and Africa, women encounter obstacles such as limited land rights, restricted resource access, discrimination, unequal pay, and challenges from climate impacts. Despite these barriers, their pivotal role remains undeniable. Narrowing the gender gap in agrifood systems could boost global GDP by 1% (approx. USD 1 trillion) and reduce food insecurity by 2%, benefiting 45 million people around the world (FAO, 2023). It's time for real investments, bridging the financial gap, and amplifying their voices. Join us all week as we celebrate the 'Women of VNV', their strength and resilience, both on and off the field.🌱 #internationalwomensday2024 #IWD #InvestInWomen #WomenofVNV #internationalwomensday #progress #womenarefarmerstoo #womeninagriculture #accelerate #womeninconservation #invest

In the lead-up to International Women’s Day #IWD2024, we are championing gender-intentional approaches to tackling climate challenges, focusing on empowering women in #ClimateAction and ensuring they benefit from its positive impacts. In 2023, our initiatives aimed at boosting women's leadership in finance, directing investments towards women-led businesses, and supporting gender-responsive enterprises. We've adopted gender-lens investing frameworks, like the 2X Challenge Collaborative, to promote diversity in leadership within our investments, highlighting achievements in companies such as Nyala Facility and Catalyst Fund. We're also innovating financing products to increase capital flow to women entrepreneurs, as evidenced by our #TECA program, where women constitute half of the supported entrepreneurs. Furthermore, we backed NMB Bank Plc's Jasiri bond in Tanzania, a #GenderBond directing significant resources to women-owned SMEs, setting a standard for future transactions. Through the #BimaLab Insurtech Accelerator, we've supported SOSO CARE, a health insurance provider offering coverage in exchange for recyclable waste, where women make up the majority of agents. This has enhanced access to healthcare and financial resilience among women. Our research into #GenderInclusion within African Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) aims to guide the allocation of #ClimateFinance to gender-responsive initiatives, with the recently launched #GenderBonds toolkit serving as a practical guide for gender bond investors and issuers. Our dedication to #GenderEquity in climate finance is tireless, with a continuous effort to leverage #FinancialMarkets for the empowerment of women across the continent. Empowering women in agricultural value chains is not just socially responsible—the underlying data shows it is good for business! Learn more about the ABERA partnership, a joint initiative by CGAP and IDH and see how you can get involved.👇
Rural women play a vital role in sustaining rural economies, yet they are a largely underserved market and face disproportionate challenges due to climate change. By investing in this underrepresented group, businesses can unlock new opportunities for growth and resilience, and open up the business case for serving rural women. CGAP and IDH are on a mission to elevate gender-inclusive and climate-smart approaches in agriculture and rural contexts and measure their impact on business performance through the new joint initiative, ABERA. On the eve of International Women’s Day, Solidaridad joins the international community in amplifying the crucial message that investing in #women is vital to accelerate the progress in achieving a #sustainable and #inclusive society.
