Fiery dragons, great battles for power, “winter is coming”: Game of Thrones, or Norse mythology? Well, both!
Before it was a TV series, GoT was a book series by George R. R. Martin called A Song of Ice and Fire. In this fantasy world, ice and fire come to destroy humankind in the form of the White Walkers and the dragons. This mimics the Norse myth of Ragnarök (literally meaning “the doom of the gods”), a future in which ice and fire destroy the earth.
There are other close connections, like the Norse god Odin and the three-eyed raven. Odin keeps two all-knowing ravens on his shoulders, and he is missing an eye that he gave up accessing a well of divine wisdom. In GoT, there is a one-eyed all-knowing seer who changes into a three-eyed raven.

David Lynch's Dune was released on this day 39 years ago ⏳.
#Dune is a 1965 epic science fiction novel book by American author Frank Herbert, originally published as two separate serials (1963-64 novel 'Dune World' and 1965 novel 'Prophet of Dune') in Analog magazine.
It is the first installment of the Dune Chronicles. It is one of the world's best-selling science fiction novels. Dune is set in the distant future in a feudal interstellar society in which various noble houses control planetary fiefs. The story explores the multilayered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice.
Herbert wrote five sequels: Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune. Following Herbert's death in 1986, his son Brian Herbert and author Kevin J. Anderson continued the series in over a dozen additional novels since 1999.

One of the greatest sci-fi epics will be released next year -
Dune: Part Two.
I absolutely loved the first one – not least because of the beautiful desert scenery,
At its core, it is a story about the dangers of single sourcing.
Think about it:
‘The Spice’ is essential for interstellar travel –
And it can only be found on a single planet.
The result?
War, religious strife, assassinations and blackmail.
The fate of an entire interstellar empire hangs in the balance.
Thankfully, in reality, the stakes are less dramatic and extreme for us earth-dwellers –
Inflation and costly delays.
However, Dune is still a cautionary tale of the dangers of single-sourcing versus diversifying your supply chain.
Diversifying your supply chain helps it become more resilient, reduces conflict and empowers you to ensure consistent quality in your products and service.
I can’t help but think that if the Dukes and Emperors had hired someone with procurement knowledge,
They could have saved themselves a lot of trouble.
At the very least, they should have followed me on LinkedIn. 😉
For Dune fans....are there any other procurement lessons you can think of from movie?
